Live-blogging from our 2007 National Taxpayers Conference, we now have the results of our Presidential Straw Poll.
Every attendee of our Conference was given a chance to vote for any of the declared Presidential candidates, Republican or Democrat. After counting the votes, we can announce partial results.
Fred Thompson was the winner with 25.7% of the vote.
Ron Paul came in second place with 16.7%.
Rudy Giuliani placed third with 12.5%
Mitt Romney garnered 9.0% of the vote to snag fourth place.
The top five was rounded out by John McCain, who received 5.6%.
Full results, pictures, and more about our Conference to come!

WARNING: If you want to be added to this list, this ping list is EXTREMELY active.
A very interesting result indeed, considering who attends this particular meeting.
Congrats.....but considering all the massive pro-Thompson PR (Leno guest, etc) the showing is a little low. Paul, on the other hand, is again proving that those who claim that he has no “real” support are wrong. He scored second, beating Rudy, Mitt, Duncan and the rest.
GRPPL bump!
Wow, Fred Thompson is surging ahead! Fred is the only one who can beat Hillary. Whoops, I forgot, I am not a Romney pumper.
Ron Paul came in second? Hmm. He must be saying something that resonates.
I hope you don’t give any credence to a poll that has Ron Paul finishing second.
In fact, from now on that should be the litmus test to determine if a poll is even worth a damn. If Paul finishes above 1%, the poll is worthless.
The defense of the country is a paramount issue in a presidential election. It is the most important responsibility of the executive branch of government. Yet, Paul’s positions on the key defense and security issues of the day are closer to those of Hillary Clinton and John Kerry than Ronald Reagan.
That’s why, for me, he’s disqualified even if he had the support necessary to win; which he doesn’t and never will.
LOL!
Disagree. Contra Paul, Hillary and Kerry supported the decision to intervene in Kosovo and Iraq. Reagan, on the other hand, wisely pulled the Marines out of Beirut rather than avoid similar quagmires.
And you'll be able to provide where exactly he's weak on national defense? Wilsonian adventurism isn't national defense, it's foolhardy. And I'd look at Reagan's words again as it pertains to the Middle East before you claim Rep. Paul is unlike him
I give this poll about as much credence as that California robo poll.
Ron Paul has the 100% correct view on tax policy and on the Constitution and Civil Liberties.
Ron Paul is featured in the following eye-opening film on the internet (~1.5 hours, high speed connection needed):

Ron Paul has a sympathetic view on foreign policy but he has yet to explain how the traditional American non-interventionist foreign policy ‘fits’ in a world where distance means little and weapons of mass destruction can land in the hands of psychopaths who think nothing of murdering millions of innocent people.
I actually expected Ron Paul to do better in the NTU poll.
I do not think Ron Paul will be President but his voice and views have certainly got people thinking. I would sleep better knowing Ron Paul was either Chairman of the RNC, Speaker of the House or a US Supreme Court Justice.
This is wonderful considering he had to be a write-in as he is still undeclared.
A Weasal Politican's way of being C-O-M-P-A-S-S-I-O-N-A-T-E and U-N-D-E-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G and then negotiating.
Talk all you want, I wouldn't vote for Paul to be the mustachioed sanitation worker following the Circus animals after the statement of his at the second debate.
