I think this guy was featured in one of the History Channels "Dogfights" programs. The amazing things those pilots did is incredible.
God Speed!

While stationed at MINOT AFB one of my Buddies met, dated and married Gen Olds' daughter. He attended the wedding and was a hoot at the Bachelor Party. We traded war stories, mostly listened to his heroics and felt very fortunate to lift a few brew with this Fighter Pilot!
Now that he's "slipped the surly bonds" I wish him God's speed!

Only met him a couple of times, but a helluva pilot and great tactician.

Numerous fighter jocks in RVN said Olds got at least 5 or 6 over NVN, but would not claim them.
When Steve Ritchie got #5, he was immediately removed from the war zone, as was Duke Cunningham, and Olds did not want to leave his “troops.”

Wow! I served at Wheelus Air Base, Tripoli, Libya 56-58 while he was there as a quite young full Colonel. He was a dashing figure and the fact that he was married to a movie star gave him even more cache.
RIP General Olds.

I met Gen. Daniel “Chappy’ James after he gave a speech at the university where I was Asst. PMS. James flew with Robin Olds on a number of missions over Vietnam and he joked that members of the squadron called them “Blackman and Robin”.
To: Jet Jaguar
Yes a good man. I must have my war stories mixed up. I had thought he flew in Korea as well.
To: Jet Jaguar
Robin Olds and Chappie James.......aka “Blackman and Robin”. We won’t be seeing their kind again.
A huge loss to aviation, the Air Force, and the nation. I entered the Air Force Academy in 1973, two years after his stint as Commandant of Cadets was up.
They still talked about him constantly....
Godspeed, General.....and always remember: don’t fly in the weather, don’t fly at night, and don’t f**k with the red-guarded switches.

His F4C is on permanent display just inside the main entrance at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson. A first rate stick and rudder man.
