Brazile Calls for Jefferson's Resignation

Democratic strategist Donna Brazile urged Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., to resign in an interview aired Wednesday on National Public Radio's News and Notes.

"I personally hope that he would do what’s best for his family and his constituents and put his legal case before everything else and allow someone else to step up and represent that district," Brazile told NPR.

Jefferson represents the still vulnerable city of New Orleans and Brazile continued, "If there’s one congressional district in America that needs a full time lawmaker focused and committed to the recovery of the Gulf Coast, it’s the second congressional district of Louisiana."

A federal grand jury delivered a 16-count indictment of Jefferson on Tuesday that includes charges of money laundering, racketeering, and obstruction of justice.

Brazile, who served as Vice President Al Gore's chief of staff during his 2000 presidential bid, said she's known Jefferson since she was an intern with the Louisiana state legislature.

"He's a hard worker, he's been a dedicated public servant, but this probe, these allegations are a distraction," Brazile said.

She said she believes the pressure on Jefferson to step down now will come from two sources: his colleagues on the Democratic side of Congress and also from the people back at home in New Orleans.

In the wake of the indictment, the House took initial steps that could lead to Jefferson's expulsion from Congress.

"I'm also pleading because of the residents of that great, wonderful city that needs his leadership, needs his attention. And right now he can not give them his full… I'm not playing this as a political game. I'm playing this personally because my own family and many other families in the Gulf Coast," Brazile said.

“a hard worker and a dedicated public servant”? WTF? OK, all you other hard working, dedicated public servants with $90,000. squirrelled away in your freezer, raise your hands! Sounds to me like they just want to move his guilty ass out of the spotlight, let him make a deal, get off with a suspended 10-minute sentence, get Ray Nagin into his seat and carry on as usual.

Dats a Bo Bo Brazile "Coconut Butt" for sure and should knock Jefferson (D, La) out.

You youngsters won't get the reference to a famous professional wrestler of the 50's.

Maybe its just me, but I suspect there is something more behind Donna Brazile calling for him to resign.

Like she’s offended she didn’t get a cut of the bribery money....

Sounds like Donna loves the Party more than the people.

Donna Brazile is not elected person. But the fact that she is a liberal black lady I assume it will have some effect at least they are not all walking in lock step defending the corrupt Jefferson.
Maybe Jefferson should simply just move to Brazil?ha!

I disagree. Donna is an endangered species. She’s a Dem who still possesses a shred of decency.

Let’s give her the benefit of the doubt.

This is a game the Rats are playing. They get a black Democrat not elected but respected to speak against Jefferson then they can claim they aren’t showing preference.

Boy, that's a blast from the past! That was a Saturday night's entertainment: Roller Derby and Rasslin' from Cobo Hall. Channel 56 in Boston showed the stuff from Detroit instead of the WWWF (and Bruno Sammartino) for a number of years.

I agree with Mz Bazille.

But knowing her past, her racist outlook on everything, her sick politics: Hey Donna, STFU!

The most disgusting aspect of this is that Jefferson has always been dirty and everybody in Louisiana has known about it. Newspaper editorials about him go back to the 80s when he was just a local pol.

In southern Louisiana graft and corruption rule. Several governors have tried to change things (namely Buddy Roemer) but they got nowhere. Hopefully, Bobby Jindal will win this year and will take another crack at it.

My Dad told me stories about his contracting days when he would get calls from government officers asking him to increase his supposedly sealed bids.

Louisiana is better now than it used to be, but it still is as corrupt as a lot of third world countries.

Yes, remove him from the spotlight - he is an embarrassment. BTW, Jefferson is accused of stealing far more than $90,000. The indictment is more than an inch thick and if convicted on all counts the sentence would stretch past 200 years in prison. There is a link to the actual indictment in the story.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,277774,00.html

The inch-thick, 94-page indictment was handed up in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va. If convicted on all charges, Jefferson could face a maximum prison term of 235 years.

Riiight, thats why they fired her butt for promoting false rumors about then VP Bush having an affair in 1988.

Cause she’s ‘too decent’.....

"He's a hard worker, he's been a dedicated public servant, but this probe, these allegations are a distraction," Brazile said.

It would be hard to come up with a bigger crock of BS than that.
