Living With the Albanians (In Cherry Hill, NJ)
Chronicles Magazine ^ | June 1, 2007 | Srdja Trifkovic

In the current debate on the future of Kosovo, it is often overlooked that hundreds of thousands of Serbs and other non-Albanians had fled the province under Albanian pressure well before the KLA terror campaign of 1996-1998. Under Tito, the Albanians’ share of the population thus rose from 64 percent in 1953 to 77 percent immediately following his death in 1980.

To understand the conditions that prompted the exodus of non-Albanians from Kosovo even in peacetime, we don’t need to look further than Cherry Hill, NJ. This prosperous Philadelphia suburb known for good schools is the home to the Duka brothers, three “Yugoslav” Albanians arrested in connection with the jihadist plot to attack Fort Dix.

As we now know, the extended Duka family (three brothers, a grandmother, parents, wives, children) was in the habit of slaughtering lambs in their backyard with a kitchen knife. There were numerous complaints about fetid diapers tossed into an open trash dumpster that sat in the driveway, near an array of cars and pickup trucks without registration or license plates. Roosters ran about their yard, and juveniles roamed the neighborhood, sometimes setting off fireworks.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that police cited the Dukas repeatedly on disorderly persons charges, including marijuana possession, improper behavior, prowling, disturbing the peace, and obstructing the administration of law; they were fined between $20 and $830 on various occasions. The brothers were also issued some 50 traffic citations between 1997 and 2006 for speeding, driving without licenses, driving while on the suspended list, failure to appear in court, and other charges

Amazing to me how many times these guys could be stopped by the police and cited, without anyone noticing that they were illegals.

The author cannot do math. In a population of about 2M, if "hundreds of thousands" had fled, the drop in Serbian population percentage would have been much greater than 13 percent.

Over a 27 year period, a significant differential in birth rate can also make a big difference in population percentage.

Hoxha was a nutcase Commie dictator, but there was a silver lining to his rule. First of all he destroyed all religion in Albania, especially the Muslims, and he didn’t allow people to leave the country. It could have been a lot worse for the west if people in Albania could have fled during those years. In Albania proper, Islam is not much of a factor, compared with Kosovo. Although it certainly could change.

"The author cannot do math."

The author actually is correct. The "64% to 77%" rise was between 1953 and 1980. The "hundreds of thousands of Serbs and other non-Albanians had fled" was between 1980 and 1996. Kosovo is now about 97% Albanian.

This story takes place in New Jersey where are are not too sure of anything. Sure sounds like mexicans to me, though.

Yeah, the Catholic and Orthodox victims of Hoxha really deserved to be destroyed (sarcasm).

"I think there is a concerted effort to destroy America and rebuild it as a socialist paradise, like in the Balkans."

Yes, in case you haven't read it, this article by Jesse Petrilla of the United American Committee (dedicated to threat awareness of Americans) says pretty much the same thing, comparing Bosnia and Kosovo to Dearborn, Michigan.

Looks like Boston College won’t be recruiting anymore quarterbacks out of Cherry Hill.

Don't think that it is "an embrace" that they will settle for!
