June 11, 2007 issue - Defense Secretary Robert Gates has a message for the military: keep focused on the real enemies. "Today, I want to encourage you always to remember the importance of two pillars of our freedom under the Constitutionthe Congress and the Press," he told graduates of both the Naval and Air Force academies in two recent commencement addresses. He went on to say that "the American military must be nonpolitical and recognize the obligation we owe the Congress to be honest and true in our reporting to them. Especially when it involves admitting mistakes or problems. The same is true with the Press ... The Press is not the enemy, and to treat it as such is self-defeating."

One thing that is the same with the Viet Nam war and Iraq is the lying liberal press. At least there are no traitorous soldiers like Kerry. This war’s Hanoi jane ,sheman, has been pushed aside for not being in lockstep.
God bless our Troops!

If the press wasn't the enemy there wouldn't be as many blogs exposing their lies...

Bring back Rumsfeld. At least as Speaker of the DoD AND the WH. He knew how to handle the press.

Heck of a day for MSNBC to recycle a story from 10 days ago. Couldn’t write about D-day but could find time for this drivel.

Gates is a politician. He knows full well they have an undue influence over the Congress when Democrats are in power. So since Gates has to try and get stuff from Congress, he needs good press coverage. Sad to say but the ONLY thing these people care about is their own egos. Gates strokes this in the hopes it will get him favorable coverage.
Stupid mistake. These people have no loyalty to anything but their own egos. They will take his sycophant behavior as their due then turn right around and stick as many knives as they can in him.
