A bomb threat prompted authorities to shut down the Fort Pitt, Liberty and Squirrel Hill tunnels for nearly an hour this evening during rush hour.
A threat was called in to Allegheny County's 911 sometime around 5:30 p.m. and the tunnels were closed at 5:40 p.m. The Squirrel Hill tunnel reopened to inbound traffic at 6:20 p.m. and the outbound side reopened a few minutes later.

Holy cow! That must have been a mess. Good thing I take the backroads home. Might have to turn on the local news tonight.

I got caught in that rain walking from my office to the Arena parking lot. The umbrella was useless. I was soaked head to toe. Then the traffic... I never take the parkway out of town (I live in the east)as I don’t want to deal with the tunnels. Great planning created this lovely three lanes down to two through the tunnels bottleneck. I took the back roads (went through lower Hill, SoHo, down Second Ave to Hazelwood, through Greenfield, Squirrel Hill, Swissvale, and got on the parkway on the other side. I get out to Golden Mile Highway from downtown during rush hour in less than 35 minutes on average. Not bad.
First thought:
