A carbon tax is the best, cheapest and most efficient way to combat cataclysmic climate change ___ IF YOU HAVE KIDS, take them to the beach. They should enjoy it while it lasts, because there's a chance that within their lifetimes California's beaches will vanish under the waves.
Global warming will redraw the maps of the world. The U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicts that sea levels will rise 7 to 23 inches by the end of the century; as the water gets higher, the sandy beaches that make California a tourist magnet will be washed away. Beachfront real estate will end up underwater, cliffs will erode faster, sea walls will buckle and inlets will become bays. The water supply will be threatened as mountain snowfall turns to rain and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta faces contamination with saltwater. Droughts will likely become more common, as will the wildfires they breed.
Global warming is happening and will accelerate regardless of what we do today, but the scenarios of climatologists' nightmares can still be avoided. Though the cost will be high, it pales in comparison to the cost of doing nothing.
The proposed fixes for climate change are as numerous as its causes. Most only tinker at the edges of the problem, such as a California bill to phase out energy-inefficient lightbulbs. To produce the cuts in greenhouse gases needed to slow or stop global warming, the world will have to phase out the fossil fuels on which it relies for most of its power supply and transportation especially the coal-burning power plants that account for about 32% of the annual emissions of carbon dioxide in the U.S. and that generate about half of our electricity.

within their lifetimes California's beaches will vanish under the wavesThe LAtrine times is going to vanish long before the beaches do.
No doubt that many of the same clymers who read this and nod in agreement are whining endlessly about the price of gas.
We're doomed !
a carbon tax is just a tax on life.
It is just a way for the socialist engineers to tax property ownership out of existence. They socialists tried with intangible impact fees for doing anything and got nowhere so now they create a global boogeyman tax.
By the junk science logic, we should set up a Mars wildlife restoration tax trust fund in order to “restore” mars since that planet is undergoing global warming too.
The LAtimes has abrogated their right to exist. Companies that advertise in the LA Times are being taken for fools and wasting their money.
Perhaps the LA Times should double their prices as a first step to deal with the carbon in their paper and ink as good citizens of zee planet.
Of course, if the environmentalist, global warning nutjobs get their carbon taxes, you won’t be able to take your kids to the beach because you won’t be able to travel to the beach. That will use to much carbon.
The UN can pound sand.
Thats why we need a carbon tax, eh?
If there were a contest designed to write a single phrase which totally encapsulates all the shoddy thinking and absent logic associated with the catastrophic climate change cult, I think this would have to be in the running.
I can't believe that an adult wrote this... I'd be ashamed to show my face in public afterward.
The “carbon tax” has been around in principle for a looong time. “global warming” is the mechanism by which it is being implemented.
They all ran after a carbon tax. We cut off their tails with a carbon axe. Did you ever see such abuse of the facts? As three blind libs...
I haven’t seen where property values are coming down at beachfront property on the east or left coast. I guess these property owners are misinformed about the impending doom. Better get going...the tide is already rising.
Yes, and aliens will pop out of their stomachs too.
Yep, the politico's have been trying to figure out how to tax breathing for decades and now they think they have. There's one teenie weenie problem, though. C02 follows temperature, not the other way around. The ice core and geologic data back this up regardless of what the dyslexic Owlgore says......
Can’t liberals do anything at all without eventually taxing it?
This is the prelude to the UN and federal government imposing a fascist system to control every tree, bush and blade of grass on private property.
These plants will be calculated by nations as carbon sinks needed to offset carbon emmisions. Cutting a tree will be made illegal by governments, as doing so will reduce a mechanism needed to absorb carbon.
The fascists in 1930s Germany would have loved the idea of controlling carbon emmissions by controlling private property for the Marxist common good, as determined by the state.
