France Intervenes in Lebanon - A fantasy of my own
England in the Seven Years' War | 5/29/2007 | Santiago de la Vega

Posted on 05/29/2007 6:03:16 AM PDT by Santiago de la Vega

If Sarkozy is serious about using French military power, he's got the perfect opportunity in Lebanon.

With Lebanese encouragement and backing Sarkozy can introduce a strong French-backed European force of troops, planes, and ships to help resolve the Syrian-caused mess there.

With this force, France can clean out the refugee camps.

Next, the French-backed forces can clean out the Bekaa Valley.

Third, Sarkozy will find a reason to attack Syria directly.

Finally, as French forces invade from the south, in a coordinated action US armored forces sweep in from Iraq and march to the Mediterranean.

While this is going on, the US Navy can sit off the coast of Syria and threaten a separate invasion from the sea.

Syria would fold in less that three weeks.

Lebanon is cleansed of terror and Syria is liberated.

Iran is next.

The downside would be that I’ld never be able to make another anti-French joke on FR.

I could live with that :0)

Syria, unfortunately, can never be “liberated”.

They have the government they want and if you take it out they will simply replace it with another one just like it, or worse.

The only way you can liberate syria is to extinguish all life in it and move people in who do not have cultural roots to the land.

I look back in the old testament where God ordered the Israelites wipe out every living thing in the land they moved into.

Seems there was a good reason.

I don’t think the French army can do what you suggest.

Two problems with your theory:

1)
France is neither politcally willing nor, militarily
capable of doing this. The best we can hope for, is a change of attitude of the French “peacekeepers” in Southern Lebanon, who have made several anti-Israeli moves. They now might change their position to anti-Hezbullah, for example by declaring them a terrorist organisation.

2)
As Leatherneck_MT rightly pointed out, there can be no liberation of Syria. Removing the Assad regime from rule (they are Alawites/a Shia sect, but secular) will mean a Sunni Islamist regime. This will be terrible. Apart from this we aren’t going to occupy Syria, to influence a post-Assad regime.

The best alternative is to kill Assad and his closer circle, but hand the power to secular military officials. Some of them were involved in Desert Storm, when Syria was allied with us, and therefore might take a friendlier position towards us.

In any potential war against Syria, we (and Israel) should focus on destroying all offensive weapons, missiles, AirForce etc.

Do you think the US (or The NATO/The EU/Russia etc) would dare to attack Saudi Arabia, the leading Islamofascist nation on Earth?

Excellent question.

I’d like to start a separate thread on the topic of the Saudi mobsters in charge of Arabian oil.

They breed like rats and bring a plague wherever they go.

As long as they have oil money, they will push their loony religious ideas. So, we’ve got to get the oil away from them.

It would benefit all the poor people of the region.

But, I don’t know how to do it.

Interesting point.

I guess by “liberated” I mean get rid of Assad.

If the new tyrant is as bad as he is, get rid of him too.

Keep killing them till the people are strong enough to take charge of their own destiny.

I agree the French don’t have either the capability or the will to intervene in Lebanon, but the US can help them get both.

The historic link between the two states is a powerful incentive for intervention.

The change of heart - and policy - by France will alter the balance of power in the region.

This is a crucial diplomatic task for the US: bring France into the coalition.

I guess that means we’re doomed. US diplomats are the worst in the world.

I do support what you are saying, please don’t think I don’t. However the history of that region is in stark contrast with what you (and I) would like to see happen.

These people have no concept of liberty and freedom. Whether it’s racial, cultural or religious I don’t know, but they don’t.

If you gave it to them they would merely continue to put new dictators on the throne until you had finally eliminated the entire race.

Probably true, but what other choice do we have?

We have to stay on the offense.

Playing defense is a losing game.

Oh I agree, I don’t believe a defensive strategy will work either, especially if we want a quick end to this war.

I have absolutely NO problem with complete and total extermination.

Nah, this would be a nightmare. French troops acting all snooty and what not come in to clean out Lebanon ....

24 hours later Hezbollah’s Sayyed Nasrallah and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would be marching triumpently down the Champs-Elysees to accept Frances’ unconditional surrender.

Then these clowns would have access to France’s nukes.
