Mironov Tells Kyoto Experts The World Is Getting Cooler
By Simon Shuster
Staff Writer

Sergei Mironov

ST. PETERSBURG -- It was a failure from the start. Russia's biggest conference on the Kyoto Protocol, which aims to fight global warming, began with a speech from a top official who denied that global warming even exists.

"In reality, the scientific basis for the protocol is fairly weak," Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov told a crowded opening session of the two-day conference Thursday, which drew more than 200 environmental experts and carbon market participants from around the world. "In the opinion of many experts, the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere does not have any effect on the climate."

On this point, Mironov stands on the fringes of global scientific opinion. A growing consensus has formed among top scientists and politicians, who have been warning governments to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases being spewed into the atmosphere. The Kyoto Protocol, first signed in 1997, created a system of financial incentives for doing this.

Nah...I think their sense of denial is too great. I expect the algores to claim credit for any climate change here on out.

You are going to crush a whole generation of idiots, you know. I went to my niece’s high school graduation last week, and I was astounded to hear the dean announce that she was so proud of the students as they had learned how to recycle and plant trees. OMG! Four years of private school education and they can plant trees.

Uh oh. Looks like they need to screen their speakers a little more closely. LOL.

Hopefully but fanatical religious sects tend to just increase the rhetoric (and violence) when challenged.

Most of the cash from credit sales would go to lawyers and brokers on the carbon market, but the biggest gains from Kyoto go to the environment.

Projects to stop the flaring of billions of cubic meters of natural gas, capture methane gas released by landfills, and create waste-water treatment systems, can all be financed, along with many others, simply by selling the carbon credits they produce, said Jan-Willem van de Ven, head of the carbon credit fund at the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development.

None of these projects would happen otherwise.

Projects with no economic value spawned to benefit "lawyers and brokers" -- sounds like government as usual.

The “Climate Change” movement isn’t insanity. It’s a carefully calculated effort to undermine market forces. Global warming, global cooling, makes no difference. The bottom line is, capitalism is bad for the weather.

Then again, you may be right in one sense. There is the fact that a lot of leftist actually believe that people are causing the world to heat up. If you hold leftist views and you see that the weather patterns this year aren’t exactly like the weather patterns last year you need some explanation. If you truly believe that there is no God and that mankind is the center of all things then mankind must be causing climate change. The alternative is that THEY have no control over the way the climate changes and this, to their narcissistic minds, is truly frightening.

Did you tell her parents they wasted their money on useless PC fluff??? Kids can get indoctrination for free in public schools. :-)

Come to my house, I can make kids plant trees and take out the recycling and not charge a dime! :-)

Yup. Environmentalists are constantly on the look out to blame man for anything. This has neatly tied everything together for the environmentalists, as previous pollution porblems wer local and specific... but NOW, the very existence of a high-energy economy is a ‘threat to planet earth’ according to climate alarmists.

From the full article,

“Today, the world carbon market is worth nearly $30 billion”

No they are not! They have to find lots of rich oil and gas companies to extort from first, If they refuse to pay, then the credits are worthless, which they are.

“So the next Kyoto round is expected to get much tougher on Russia.”
Just what are they going to do, Stop buying oil from them and let their people freeze to death next winter? Send over their bombers? (I like this idea best.) I can’t remember the last time I read something so stupid. Putin will tell them to go pound sand and they need to be told that.
“There is no guarantee of carbon credits being available as a system after 2012,” said Jesse Uzzell, regional manager of MGM International, a brokerage on the carbon market. “The window of opportunity is closing.”
With Russia and the USA not buying any BS credits their will lot left. Maybe they should tell China they have to buy some credits.
Let me know how that goes.

Don't start drawing hasty conclusions. Do you honestly think any major oil exporting country is going to jump on the Global Warming bandwagon? Of course not. That by itself makes the value of their opposition to Global Warming tenuous at best. Let's not start applauding Russia when their opposition is likely based on nothing more than their wish to sell as much oil and natural gas as possible. You honestly don't believe that Putin's Russia cares only about the truth of science do you?

Note: don't assume that I necessarily support the opposite if I reject some argument. To do so would be to be small minded and to draw hasty conclusions of my intentions and reasoning.

With their newfound knowledge, hopefully your daughter and her class cohort will never suffer the fate of the original inhabitants of the Easter Islands.

It only gets worse though, I was taking a graduate level accountant masters course, and the practice exercises in the book included global warming mumbo jumbo.

Fer shore, fer shore! Here in South Carolina in a spot that used to be the hot spot in the nation on some days, I have been shivering in the early morning hours lately! Without Global Warming I fear we may return to the days when it was sometimes over 100 degrees in May. I have lived in SC for sixty three years and it was never this cool back in the days when the consensus was that we were approaching a new ice age!
