Former ACLU president in Va. to plead guilty in child porn case

McLEAN, Va. (AP) - Court records show a former president of the Virginia chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union is expected to plead guilty to charges stemming from child pornography possession case.

A judge in Alexandria today scheduled a plea agreement hearing for 51-year-old Charles Rust-Tierney of Arlington. It was not clear what charges would be included in the plea agreement.

A grand jury indicted Rust-Tierney earlier this month on one count each of receipt and possession of child pornography. According to federal sentencing guidelines, a conviction at trial on both counts could have resulted in a prison sentence of 11 to 14 years.

Rust-Tierney -- who also coached Little League baseball in Arlington -- has been in jail since his arrest.

At pretrial hearings, two judges refused to grant bail, describing the pornography in question as some of the most sickening they had ever encountered.

Excerpt:

They say Rust-Tierney had video showing, among other things, the sexual torture of infants and toddlers. The judge said she’d never heard of child pornography that vile and said because of that, Rust-Tierney would stay behind bars until his trial.

Rust-Tierney is a father himself and also a coach of Arlington-area youth little league and soccer teams. In court, dozens of his friends and family members voiced support for him. They say they have never suspected him of improper contact with kids.

Excerpt:

One of the images Tierney was in possession of showed a little girl tied up and screaming while being violently raped.

If convicted, Rust- Tierney faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years to a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison on the receipt of child pornography charge. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison on the possession of child pornography charge.

We need tougher laws.

I thought that to be odd so I surfed. I don't know how much you trust Wikipidia, but there is an entry about him that describes the stuff found on his computer. It goes way beyond the fondling stuff you would think. Way beyond.

If this is his fetish, he is one sick unit and a menace to society. I understand why the judges refused bail.

It would be interesting to check where this 'officer of the court' donated his pro-bono hours

From another article:

He’s accused of receiving and possessing child pornography, and investigators outlined what they say they found after searching his home. They say Rust-Tierney had video showing, among other things, the sexual torture of infants and toddlers. The judge said she’d never heard of child pornography that vile and said because of that, Rust-Tierney would stay behind bars until his trial.

I haven’t heard of this story on the news. Are any local media giving this story any coverage? If not, why not?

“Something like this deserves a life death sentence.”

My son-in-law was brutally murdered about 15 years ago...my daughter told the PA here that she didn’t want to pursue the death penalty. She wanted the guy (and I quote) “to pick cucumbers all day and get b***f***ed all night.”
