Gun Rights Group Modifies Bloomberg Gun Giveaway

(CBS/AP) McLEAN, Va. -- A Virginia gun rights group has been told it has to modify a gun giveaway that it’s planning in order to get back at New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg for his federal lawsuits against out-of-state gun shops.

The Virginia Citizens Defense League is now doubling the number of guns it plans to give away. And the group is opening its contest to anybody who shows up at a meeting tonight.

The group has organized the Bloomberg Gun Giveaway raffle to raise money for the gun shops being sued and to poke a thumb in Bloomberg’s eye. The group believes he has unfairly targeted legitimate gun dealers.

Bloomberg has called the giveaway’s organizers “sick people.”

Customers received raffle tickets for every 100 dollars they spent at two gun shops. But Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Horan told the group yesterday that under Virginia gambling laws, the contest must be open to anybody who attends today’s drawing. The prizes are a handgun and a rifle, both worth about 900 dollars.

New York officials have sued more than two-dozen gun dealers from Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia.

Great fun! I don’t know what this all means, but I know I laughed when I read it.

Good for Virginia. Bloomberg is a Billionaire with bodyguards. Funny how rich people like that want to keep others from protecting themselves.

The VCDL meeting is tonight in Northern VA. Everyone who shows up gets a free ticket. I’d show up if i lived up there, pretty good odds for a raffle.

Hell, at least they are smart enough not to live in NYC!
Bloomie needs to dig a moat, and string razor wire, around his little European paradise, and start growing carrots on the roof of his penthouse. NYC may be big, but NYC ain’t the USA.

Swampsniper, since you are sniping at Bloomie, can I take a try, too. You said “NYC ain’T America”. I agree.

The ‘Bloomin’ Idiot’ isn’t American, either.

GG, what the fools don’t realize is that had the State of Florida decided to impose NYC style tyranny on me, I reckon I would be gator bait, long ago, but not alone. The libs think that they can just keep up their incremental creepy crawling, and finish on top, down the road. They don’t know me, I may be crazier than the average towel head, don’t want 72 virgins, but freedom for my grandkids is a better deal.
Hey, Spoonbills are scarce up here this year, what is going on in the big swamp?

Bloomberg sent investigators to buy guns at several stores in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. They tried to make 'straw purchases,' in which a legal buyer gets a gun for a person who can't buy it legally. The investigators were not operating under the authority of the law. People who have seen the videos of the purchases say the only people who broke the law were the investigators.

Bloomberg filed lawsuits against some stores, including some in Virginia. The VCDL held a raffle to help pay the legal expenses of the store owners.

The GangGreen guys at SFWDM are claiming drought, mainly because they flushed lots of water into the ‘Glades for “enviro” projects.

Where I live, about 47 miles west of the Miami International Airport, the water is the highest it has been at this time of year for the last five year period.

Having dropped the Lake O levels, probably in anticipation of a hurricane, and knowing full well that they have over filled the Lake O so high, for so many years, that the levees are questionable.

The Army Corps of Engineers used to fly the entire levee once a month, looking for water seeping through the levee. These leaks were called ‘boils’ because water was boiling up under pressure. If not stopped, they can eventually cause levee destruction.

THEN, they began flying every week, and then every day.

Not a good indicator. The AgencyPerson knew this but wasted billions of bucks on land condemnation (socialization of Florida) instead of taking care of the Lake O levees.

As for spoonbills, none in my area at this time. The annual drydown should cause a concentration of minnows and other aquatic critters in my two sloughs. This concentration of food is essential to wading birds having enough surplus energy (food) to feed their young.

No dry down at the proper time, and wading bird recruitment suffers. No food for the young, no young. Not hard to understand, but the SFWMD GangGreenies have their “agency mission” dancing in front of their beady little eyes.

Think “Agenda Uber Alles”. Think “Nature Nazi”

My gag reflex is getting a bit over stimulated, so I think I will stop writing about AgencyPersons and their behavior.

Keep on the keyboard, it has far more power than any other weapon.

One can now hunt, in the comfort of one’s own home, with no season and no limit, the following game animals; fools, socialists, GangGreenies - opps, I’m getting repetitive.

Fortunately, you and I are in the same position as was Voltaire when he prayed, “Lord, make my enemies ridiculous”
Now, as in Voltaire’s case, G*d has been generous and granted our prayers.

Yeah, Bro, but how do you handle some little metrosexual who would crap his britches first time a big gator showed up on the porch? Hell, these folks are scared out of their minds by a crazy PR boy with a boxcutter!
Shit, buddy, maybe I am too damned dumb to be scared.
Whatever, how will you ever get any sleep down there, in the big swamp? Goodness, gracious, one of them gators is gonna grab your butt!

Somewhere there is a whole web site dedicated to the Calvin and Hobbes snowman cartoons. They are pure genius.

The actuality of my “relationship” to the local ‘gators is as follows.

Upon moving in, a gator esconsed it’s entire 5’ under my front steps. I maneuvered a rope noose around its neck, and dragged it out. “Dumbo” as he was dubbed, was convinced to rool over (not hard to do!) and as he was rolling, the second rope and the 2X4 were tangeled up and soon Dumbo was a bit short of travel options.

A 1X2 was then applied to Dumbo, from, so to speak, appetite to a$$hole, and on to the tip of his tail. Since the 2” side was used, to avoid breaking the dermal bones under his skin, soon Dumbo was smasrter than he was at the beginning of this “learning experience”.

Dumbo learned that while I swam rarely, walked and looked like one of the huge storks that had stalked him when he was only a little hatchling ‘gator, had no tail, and didn’t bellow in the pond to attract a mate, - still I was the dominent gator, the pinnacle predator, etc.

To this day, 2.5 decades later, if I get into the pond, there WILL be wakes moving away from me. If I walk around it, as I approach, heads submerge and gators retreat. This also happens with all humans at my place.

This is as it must be. Only when predators fear man, is man safe. Usually, such fear is created only by gunpowder.

As a matter of honesty, the fact that gators are regularly killed all around my land undoubtedly helped.

Gunpowder - bringing better to predators near you. ;-)

Once Dumbo had learned to fear me, the other gators learned from his avoidance behavior. To this day,

I forgot to mention that at the Shark Valley tourist trap on the north side of Everglades national Park, the following was seen on numerous occasions.

Tourists (potential caloric intake for predators) were allowing their children to approach and even pet huge alligators which were sunning themselves alongside the path down near the observation tower.

Ranger Randy, and Rangerette Geanette were stand by watching. Neither member of the “Armed & Rangerous” walked over to the parents to advise the parents that the gators were a risk to the humans (adult & child, alike) NOR did they intervene in any way.

Gators got right!

In FloriDUH, the intellectually challanged at the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission passed a law against “Molesting an alligator” Don’t disturb that alligator, mere human!

Gators got rights!

That's a great line, and I agree with everything you said, but I personally don't think I'd trust the intelligence of a large gator to keep me safe in waist deep water. If it were me, I think your pal Dumbo would be for a little "accident" sometime soon, and so would as many of his family as I could get to.

I do have an education center at that site in the interior of the ‘Glades, and therefore there are reasons for wanting animals available for behavior observation by the students or researchers.

Unlike the National Park Service “scientists”, I have do bear the responsibility for my management decisions which might impact safety.

Therefore, I felt it necessary to write an education plan for Dumbo. Dumbo was given the lesson plan, tested to determine if his ‘educational experience’ had produced testable results, and Dumbo demonstrated that he had mastered the material.

By the way, Dumbo turned out to be a one trial learner. Based on many years of experience, that is more than can be said for many human students, and more than a few educators.
