Giuliani's Direct Talk: "I've always believed in [abortion] and always will."
Washington Post ^ | May 12, 2007 | Rudy Giulianni

Posted on 05/12/2007 2:40:59 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

There was much coverage of Rudy Giuliani's speech Friday at Houston Baptist University outlining his contrarian -- for Republicans -- views of gay rights, gun control, and abortion. Newspaper and TV reports give us the essential bits.

But now, thanks to YouTube, we can hear the source ourselves. Here's Giuliani's speech, put online by his campaign.

* At 10:20, he begins to talk about "areas of disagreement."

* At 11:10, he talks about gay rights.

* At 13:00, it's guns and crime control.

* At 18:25, abortion.

I respect him more now that he’s telling the truth. I won’t vote for him, but at least he’s not trying to con us as much. I think it’s clear now to conservatives that Giuliani’s a liberal.

I haven’t watched the video, but does he use the word “rights” when he’s discussing abortion, gays, etc.?

Looks like Giuliani is now running in the democrat primary. He'll finally get his chance to run against hillary.

Next up is the abortion-advocating, gun-grabbing, homo-loving, minimum-wage-imposing, flip-flopping great white "hunter," Mitt Romney.

Twisting slowly, slowly in the wind.

I didn’t expect this until after he had the nomination (assuming he fooled enough people.) I believe it is a sign that he cannot force the social Conservatives out later as he had hoped and that he wishes to try to pull enough liberal vote to still have a chance at doing this now.

I respect him more now that he’s telling the truth.

So he's been lying before (repeatedly) but now he's telling the truth?

At least you're pretty sure...

And for that you respect him more now?

Hmm. Curious,to say the least.

But... but.... Rudy is the savior of the Republican Party (at least in the minds of several So-Called Freepers who I am sure will chime in to flame this post)...

It’s kind-of hard to listen to. Boring, really. I’ll wait to hear his opinion on those issues, though.

I loathed him before and I loathe him now. Not much difference.

I would ask any Julie-Yawnee supporter to watch the entire tape and tell me that, regardless of the views, that speech impediment would not get very old way before eight years is up. A Bogie movie occasionally, no problem.

It is an unfortunate truth that the way a speaker speaks influences us as much as what they say. This is an opinion that most would never dare talk about.

His own church wants nothing to do with him. Consider that as well.

I thought that he deserved the benefit of the doubt and should at least be given a chance to speak his piece.

He has, he is not my cup of tea, end of story.

Giuliani is toast. We are not like DemoGenerates.

We do not gleefully exterminate innocent babies,
the infirm, or inconveinient old people.
Nazis Communists and DemoPerverts are the ones
who do that.

So we have an open pro abort and two other lying pro aborts in our “top tier.” None are getting my vote.

Here is one to figure.

Many FReepers who are Conservative, Right to Life, and fought off the anti Terry Scheivo folks way back have
drank the kool aid and followed the folks they fought, the Rudybots to WA.

The Cult of Personality wins over than principles.

On the subject of Cult of Personality,
The folks who are stinking up FR with their childish
support for Anti War, Ron Paul and dividing Republicans
making it possible for a Democrat to win.

We don't need eight years: we just need to put Hillary 'way behind.

After four years, I'd take any VP over Giuliani—but America must get past Hillary at all costs.

Call me whatever you want...But I thought the GOP had this thing called a....”Platform”...

Full of resolutions, beliefs, and other issues the party delegates in general vote on every so often that outline the positions the party takes on those issues...

Wouldn’t it be a good idea if you are running for President of the United States, that you’d pretty much be rock solid, in agreement with that platform???

Maybe I’m crazy, maybe I’m stupid...But it just seems to me that that should be the direction you should run in if you’re shooting (eheh, pardon the pun) for that office???

I have not seen anything but opposite day from most of these “top three” that everyone seems to be so excited about...

I don’t have much in the way of personal feelings for the man.

But I will not vote for him to be my President.

We are at war, and need a combat tested, conservative leader for Commander in Chief, IMHO.

This could be the end of Rudy. If he does get the GOP nomination I am deathly afraid of a candidate on the right pushed by social conservatives. This would splinter the party and give the Presidency to Hillary. A third party candidacy by Perot is the reason Clinton was elected on 92. I hope history does not repeat itself.

Wow, talk about treading softly on thie issue of abortions. NY has the highest rate of abortions in America, and this guy can’t even stomach to say he is a supporter of that...instead he gives his beliefs on it being reduced. I suppose any Republican candiate would find it hard to say that outright.

Still very poor job at answering the question.
