National Post - FULL COMMENT BLOG - Barbara Kay:
The unholy alliance between radical Islam and the hard left

In English Canada, the name Françoise David is not exactly a household word, but, however little credibility she has even in Quebec, she is still a major presence in, and co-founder of a legitimate – that is to say, politically legitimate, not morally - political party, “Québec Solidaire”. An ardent extreme left-wing feminist, you’d think that David would be all about the rights of women everywhere, not just in Quebec.

But by now we are used to some very illogical behaviour by these types. David is lending her name and prestige, such as it is, to the “Marxism-Festival of Resistance” taking place in Toronto May 10-13, a conference that is designed officially to unite Islamists with the radical Left. Islamists are no friends to women, but that’s a mere bagatelle when considering the larger and more important issue to leftists of denouncing Israel. Two of the participants, Wahida Valiante and Ausma Malik, were members of the Task Force of the Canadian Federation of Students, who issued the Report on the Needs of Muslim Students that recommends, among other things, the “integration of Islamic perspectives into courses such as marketing, nursing and finance – areas where there are specific differences between Western and Islamic perspectives”. (This report, the thin end of the wedge in introducing sharia law on campus, has been given a blessing by Barbara Hall of the Ontario Commission on the Rights of the Person. )

Another speaker at this “conference” will be Mohammed Elmasry, president of the Canadian Islamic Congress, of which Wahida Valiante is vice-president. Mr. Elmasry gained infamy when he told a television audience that it was acceptable for Palestinian terrorists to blow up Israeli civilians.

Mme David cannot claim to be ignorant of her co-participants’ insalubrious ideology. David participated in a conference held in Cairo last April whose goal was to effect an alliance between the radical Left and the Muslim Brotherhood – i.e. terrorists - in order to combat capitalism, imperialism and Zionism.

I trust the National Post will be on the job covering the nuptials of this odd couple.

The standard answer for any question beginning with "When will liberals help"...is "when it advances liberal causes".

The hard Left is for destroying Western civilization by any means necessary. The causes they champion, be it feminism, socialism, gay rights, or (now) even “Islamic integration” are merely the means to make that happen. They never trouble themselves with the hellish reality of their social “paradise” because their only real objective is to tear down the status quo. The root cause is self-hatred, pure and simple. No matter how many rights or freedoms we enjoy in the West, its not enough to make up the crimes they imagine we’ve commited. They would rather all women walk around in burkas as chattel than for white men to be in charge. When you look at things from this persepective, the “illogical” becomes very logical indeed.

People are liberals because it’s easier to feel than to think.

I agree. The rights of Muslim women are of little use to the Democrats at this point.

Bush already freed them from Saddam and gave them the vote.

The remarkable progress that Iraqi women have made in less than two years can be measured by recalling their circumstances under Saddam Hussein.

"Iraqi women were once among the best educated and most professionally accomplished in the region," said Charlotte Ponticelli, State Department coordinator for international women's issues. "That is why it was shocking to hear from U.N. experts that, by the end of Saddam's rule, more than two-thirds of all Iraqi women were actually illiterate, and each year at least 400 of them were murdered in so-called 'honor killings' he had legalized."

OMG!

It's not a phobia! The main symptom of the phobia disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject.

""A general 'failure to accommodate' was the most frequently identified problem by Muslim students in many facets of campus life," said Ausma Malik, Task Force member and student at the University of Toronto."

Grrrrr!

It isn’t logical because it will lead the their downfall as well.

It isn’t logical because it will lead the their downfall as well.

Except that they don’t believe there will be any downfall. They believe that they will be able to control whatever forces they unleash—be it militant Islamic or militant secularist. You can call it naive, but there it is. I’m sure many of the ardent communists in Stalin’s era never thought they’d be purged.

Apparently, Barbara Kay's piece " The unholy alliance between radical Islam and the hard left " contained a minor factual error that Françoise David did not, in fact, physically attend the referred to conference in Cairo.

However, given it can be easily documented that Ms. David attended similar international meetings in the past purporting to represent Canada and, in Montreal last August, effectively 'marched under Hezbollah's flag' with the likes of Denis Coderre and other open opponents of the State of Israel and proponents of well-established Islamofascist causes, Barbara Kay's slight mistake otherwise takes nothing away from her central contention that a clear link exists between our domestic social and economic extremists and radical Islam. ~ GMMAC
