A former Islamic militant has disclosed for the first time the extent of the Al-Qaeda terror network in Britain.
Hassan Butt, who was stabbed in the street recently after publicly denouncing fundamentalist violence, revealed that more than 100 jihadis held an Al-Qaeda summit in London four years ago to coordinate their British activities into a single force.
Among those present was Mohammed Junaid Babar, a US citizen who later became a supergrass after being arrested by the FBI. His evidence was crucial to the conviction last week of the Islamist Crevice gang, who had plotted to set off bombs in London and Kent.
After the summit, said Butt, he drove to Batley in West Yorkshire with Babar who directed him to the home of Mohammad Sidique Khan, who later led the bombers who hit London on July 7, 2005. Butt said he got the impression that Babar knew Khan well.
This disclosure of the supergrasss close link to Khan will increase pressure on MI5 to explain why the bomber was not arrested and the 7/7 outrage prevented.
This weekend fresh doubts were raised over the official account of how much the intelligence services knew about the 7/7 bombers before their suicide attacks. A document for the Crown Prosecution Service states that Khan was identified six months before the attacks contrary to statements made by John Reid, the home secretary.
Answer to the questions: A politically correct Labour government.
Had to google “supergrass” cause I had a bad case of WTF.
Turns out to be British slang. An informer is referred to as a copper because he helps the police (coppers.) Cockney rhyming slang changed it to grasshopper. Shortened to grass. Supergrass means in informer who spills lots of info.
Thanks, you just saved from a trip down google lane and all the spyware that that would engender. :-)
The Brits thought they had this arrangement with the Muzzies - we won’t bother you, we’ll give you welfare payments, allow you to preach jihad - as long as you don’t do attacks on our soil. The FBI had warned MI5 about Khan - he was helping a cell in Brooklyn - but MI5 chose to ignore it. Didn’t want to stir up trouble. Then al Qaeda got impatient and the Brits got their wake-up call.
“We need to see the film, the one shelved at PBS. Please write/call your representative.”
It doesn’t bother me that it isn’t being shown. In fact, I would prefer that it not be.
Why? Because I fully believe that Islam is an ideology which should be relegated to the historical dustbin. No matter what Jasser says, Islam is antithetical to out Bill of Rights and our Constitution. The film’s intent is to differentiate between Islam and Islamists. In other words, it suggests that there is good Islam and there is bad Islam. Please note that I refer to the ideology itself and not necessarily to those who believe in it. I prefer to keep the heat up on the reformists and encourage more Muslims to abandon Islam.
correction: antithetical to our Bill of Rights
I understand. I think there needs to be “play,” so to speak, back and forth between that philosophy and my own. If we simply encourage moderates without demanding drastic reform, things will continue as they are. The problem lies within Islam and the Qur’an itself, neither of which really lend themselves to reform for the simple reason that it is supposedly not the word of Muhammad, but the word of Allah. Now if some intelligent reformists were to get together and suddenly declare that they believe Muhammad wrote the “scripture” himself, the Qur’an could be modified. I doubt that will ever happen and the ideology will probably lend itself to violence too easily forever.
I hope you’re right.
Names like Butt and crevice had to see if this was satire.
“The film may give independents confirmation in their belief that killing for virgins is stupid.”
Perhaps.
“We may even pick up seats in 08 with the muslim independent vote.”
Highly doubtful. Most voted for Bush directly after 9/11, but they have gone almost completely leftist since.
Whatever happens, I’ve enjoyed the exchange of thoughts with you. Thank you.
Christians and Jews, including the more orthodox ones who believe their scriptures were written by God, do not kill people suspected of witchcraft nor do they stone adulterers to death. They have adjusted to modernity while still being traditional. On the other hand, it is true that the Jewish and Christian scriptures have a lot more material to draw upon than does the Koran when one is looking for justifications to be humane and non-violent.
