Agree. Fred’s speech was good, but not great, as some people seem to think. It was somewhat disjointed, as you said. I think more passion and partisanship were also needed. It was a general-election speech, not a speech primarily directed to Republicans. If Fred gets in, he might make the same mistake Rudy is making: Appealing to swing voters rather than strong Republicans in a primary contest.

Ok, watched this, and while a little unpolished at times, this was the greatest tour de force of all the important issues since I heard Newt several years ago. Fred UNDERSTANDS all the issues, not just some of them.

I can quibble with his take on immigration---he sounds like he's ok with some amnesty-lite down the road---but if he's willing to seriously defend the border, that's far and above anyone else out there now (anyone who really has a chance).

I think he would make mincemeat of Hillary or Obama in a debate.

What?! Of course murder. Murder is a state law issue. Don't you know that?

Of course it is. But if states would begin to do something as proposterous as recinding murder laws, then it would need to be a federal matter (and there are federal felonies, including I believe, murder). Oh-oh, hold on. There are states without laws against the murder of all people, now, aren't there?

I have heard him on Sean’s radio dial before as well, and I do NOT recall him saying that about abortion, if he did it would have been discussed here on FR, and I have read almost every FT thread here, and I do not recall anyone bringing that up.

I thank the Lord for giving me what perceptive ability he has. Of course some listen harder for what candidates say about the Right to Life than others, too.

Tonight on H&C he did talk about abortion and he did NOT say anything about it being a State Rights issue. Infact he said he wants to make it harder for women to have abortions of any kind. Said in his mind he has always been pro-life, but after seeing his 3 year old daughter on a sonogram he is now in his mind more pro-life than ever, and even more so now in his heart. He also said that PBA should not even be debated on, said it was a dispicable act, that should not even be up for debate.

Funny how many things one can say about how nasty abortion is and how it should occur -- while not addressing the central political question.

That is why there are candidate surveys, by Right to Life organizations. We should seek out specific answers to specific questions, before we throw our support over to a candidate. Especially, when lives hang in the balance.

My source who is rather negative most of the time and was in attendance said he was fabulous and electrified the audience. She was very impressed with his positive and very sincere way. She agreed with his stance on every single issue and it wasn’t all puff...handled the negative issues very well. Just one person’s views for what it’s worth and I’m quite encouraged he will probably jump in soon...I hope!

Abolition of slavery in most of the world took years and was accomplished incrementally.

I never said otherwise, so don't worry about disagreeing.

However, we should prefer to support candidates for office with the moral clarity and courge of conviction to recognize that medically unnecessary abortion must not be tolerated anywhere in America and each life lost until it is, is exactly the tragedy of an innocent human being wilfully killed.

It was good, just not great. But I like Thompson too, and would like to have the option of voting for him.

Your report on your “source’s” reaction is encouraging even if I don’t fully share it. Right now, and for the last year or more, there have been many, many “rather negative” people in the GOP. I’ve been one of them, though less so than many. A candidate who can excite and impress GOP’ers who are feeling negative may have a leg up in the primaries and might also be a stronger candidate in the general election.

Ok, so you tell me what candidate or a person who has a Federal office in the US is 100% pro-life the way you want them to be?

I take it you voted for Bush, show me where he said that abortion should be outlawed, show me where he called it murder.

I’ll watch c-span if Marsha Blackburn is on. She has so much common sense.

There are fishing shows here on the radio early on Saturday morning. They just tell where the fish are biting and take questions. 970 wfla radio. Then they have a cigar show and a barbecue show. Their Saturday programming doesn’t sound healthful to me except for the fishing part.

Get this. Apparently, a large cat or a raccoon ate a seagull in the backyard here last night. There were seagull feathers everywhere, no feet or beak or anything. Something was really hungry... It was pretty creepy.

Hi mom. It would be scientifically interesting to know the average age of Fred Thompson supporters.
