PLATTSBURGH -- After hearing overwhelming support for a resolution opposed to war in Iran, Plattsburgh city councilors agreed to send a message. ... The council voted unanimously to support Provost's resolution calling for all diplomatic efforts to be exhausted before entering into war with Iran.

The measure was altered somewhat as a compromise.

Taken out were specific paragraphs that directly criticized President George W. Bush, accused the administration of lying, pointed out the number of soldiers and people killed and wounded in the war with Iraq, and the cost of the war.

Councilor William Provost (D-Ward 6)

Do you remember when we found out that all diplomatic efforts were exhausted in 1941? When the diplomats showed up at the SecState’s office an hour after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

I don’t understand why local politicians vote on measures that they know they cannot enforce and which will influence no one. The only reason I can think of is to pander to their liberal constituencies.

I went to P’burgh State in the early 70s. Met an Air Force guy there and married him. Without the base there, it’s probably gone all liberal college town?

lol...awesome? Not to burst your bubble or anything councilor, but aside from you and your (very) small group of fellow anti-Americans on that council no one cares. All your insignificant little vote accomplishes is to make you feel good about yourselves.

Gee these folks DO have access to all the Foreign, Military, and CIA Intelligence to make such a educated decision, plus they have done so much work on international matters and has really understood the intricacies of Foreign Affairs esp with a hostile foreign power such as Iran!!

I say let the experts do their jobs esp the President as Commander In Chief and stop your stupid yapping as if you run the American Foreign Policy!!

City of Plattsburgh Councilors In all fairness, the one time I asked Mr Provost for something - posting council minutes online - he came through quickly. I was going to post them on my blog.
