Besides being the most radical-looking shift knob on the planet, the Gaslock Indy Cater has an energy-saving function. It tells you the exact point to shift to save gas, and if you follow its timely shifting tips, you can end up spending 15% less on fuel. It's not going to give you astonishing mileage like that 200 mpg Velozzi hybrid we showed you yesterday, but still, 15% savings might come in handy.
Its auto-dimming LEDs adjust to ambient light so they won't be too distracting, and the shifter also has a helpful numerical indicator that reminds you what gear you're currently using. It's not only a super-cool addition to your car's interior, but the company says it's easy to install. See more close-ups of the Indy Cater on the next page.
It's yet another clever application of LED technology, lighting up your car's decor while saving energy in a unique way.
I want one.

You can also use a typical vacuum guage. In my hotrodding days I had one installed. It had ranges for best efficiency and basically boiled down to the harder you pushed the gas pedal the more gas you use.
I’d rather have it on the dashboard so I don’t have to look down to see it.
Neat. I can’t seem to find any information regarding pricing or where it could be purchased though.
I don’t spend time staring at my shifter when I’m driving. And any idiot who does, shouldn’t be behind the wheel.
.. yup , . . the ol’ Vacuum Guage
I was a “wrench” in the pre-computer days , .. installed a few , .. had one on a Slant Six , ah-h-h-h , those were the days
(( do I sound like an old fogey , or WHAT? !!! ))
SAve your money.
Listen to your revs,
then short-shift. ;-)
My dad taught me, easy on the gas, easy on the brakes. I passed it along to my kids. They didn’t listen either.
VW Rabbit had an arrow that would light up in the middle of the dashboard to indicate best shift rpm.
This is only good if it’s deployed on a heads-up display.
(it's hereditary)
It would make much more sense if it gave a “ping” when it’s time to shift.
