COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- A man who was shot when National Guard troops opened fire on anti-war protesters at Kent State University 37 years ago says the case should be reopened.
Alan Canfora says an audio recording taken by a fellow student on May 4, 1970, reveals an order to fire.
Four students were killed and 13 wounded.
The FBI investigated whether an order had been given to fire, and said it could only speculate. One theory was that a guardsman panicked or fired intentionally at a student and others fired when they heard the shot.
Canfora says he can't identify the voice on the tape or say for certain that it belongs to a guardsman. He wants the government to analyze the tape.
A spokesman with the Ohio National Guard says he is unaware of the tape and declined comment.
Let’s see - he’s approaching retirement....needs money?
Enter the lawyers....
Un huh
No pity...no quarter!
I have no sympathy for those that burned buildings at Kent State.
None.
The tragedy of Kent State was the poor marksmanship.
Had the students who were shot dead that day burned any buildings?
Another opportunity for the RAT’s to open a wound which has healed. And, media bonus points will go to the RAT nominee in 08 as the media subliminally suggests that this event was caused by “war mongers” in government who cant be trusted.
You are seriously disturbed.
Considering what we know about the Left, the order to fire probably came from the protestors.
Where has this tape been? Its authenticity must be established before anything on it matters.
I guess it’s better to question your sense of humor rather than your character.
“Had the students who were shot dead that day burned any buildings?”
No one was ever charged from what I recall.
Its interesting to note not a single student was shot in a classroom, btw. Not one.
Don’t worry, I imagine Moveon.org will come in and urge this fellow to forgive and forget. It’s what they do.
You mean that rabble was actually composed of students? I've read that lots of them were weren't.
So, somebody yelled “fire?”
Prove it was an order by a commander.
There were more students than commanders and the students WANTED trouble.
And the media would always edit-out the provocation and just show the reaction.
Typically, these organizers were not students, but professionals that were traveling from campus to campus to incite violence. We had quite a dossier on them. Included was Bobby Seal, the notorious Black Panther.
Several months before the shootings happened, the campus and small town of Kent had been infiltrated with lots of highly charged left wing politicos including SDS - I was a student at Kent at the time (in my dorm studying when the shootings actually happened) and very naive, but it remains one of the worst days of my life.
I seem to recall that all that rioting and arson at college campuses stopped right after Kent State. The communist trash became more enlightenend!
“You mean that rabble was actually composed of students? I’ve read that lots of them were weren’t.”
Most of those the MSM of the day focused on were not students. For example, the one young lady with her arms spread wide kneeling over one person that got shot was a travelling prostitute, for want of a better description.
