Imminent Danger - Madness at Massacre Will not Result in Sound Gun Laws
Private Papers, Victor Davis Hanson ^ | April 20, '07 | Bruce Thornton

The reaction to the murders in Blacksburg is eliciting the usual liberal nostrums. Typical is the N.Y. Times editorial that concluded, "What is needed, urgently, is stronger controls over the lethal weapons that cause such wasteful carnage and such unbearable loss." NO, what is needed is some coherent thinking that will keep us from allowing the government from further restricting our Constitutional freedoms.

Well, there they go again. Very predictable. Another mass crime scene and the haters of the Second Amendment start inundating us with reasons why honest citizens should lose their Constitutional rights. Let's have some rational and intelligent thought on the subject for a change. When Dr. John Lott, then at the University of Chicago, published "More Guns, Less Crime," it represented the most thorough and comprehensive analysis of the data concerning firearm possession and crime ever undertaken. Even liberal academics like Gary Kleck, right here in FL, didn't dispute Lott's basic thesis and their own independent research reached similar conclusions. Lott went on to become Research Scholar at Yale and has published even more research. I strongly recommend his WebSite to all FReepers. It's loaded with great and interesting facts on the subject: johnrlott.tripod.com By the way, those who most need to educate and inform themselves are those in the MSM who keep spouting out their ignorant talking points 24/7.

Be careful how these thugs might tweak mental health laws as a way of instituting more gun confiscation. They'll say that no one with a history of mental health problems can buy a gun. Then they'll say that anyone who thinks they need to buy a gun to defend themselves is crazy. They'll deem hate speech as a sign of a mental health problem.

Etc.

Liberals regard gun ownership as a pathology. That’s why they try to first restrict, then take away the RTKBA. They don’t identify with that right, or people who exercise it. And they don’t rust people who do; to protect them, nor to allow such people to defend themselves, or others.

And since Liberals know what’s better for the rest of us than we do, the will never, EVER, cease their efforts to eliminate, or neuter, the Second Amendment.

Liberals are fighting a losing cause. They can’t ban everything.

Criminals will always find ways to commit crimes. A sick mind will always find an outlet.
