CBS radio host Don Imus does not have a monopoly on racial slurs. Loose cannons are a fixture in broadcasting, though most survive to either slur again or re-emerge chastened and reinvented. Gaffes have varying shelf lives.
In December, Rosie O'Donnell used a mock Asian-sounding language while co-hosting ABC's "The View," to describe world reaction to an episode of public drunkenness by actor Danny DeVito. Despite protests from the Asian-American Journalists Association and other ethnic groups, Miss O'Donnell continued to host even as she criticized fellow ABC personality Kelly Ripa for "homophobic behavior."
It was not quite as easy for New Jersey shock jocks Craig Carton and Ray Rossi, who called Asian-Americans and Arab-Americans "fringe groups" and mimicked ethnic accents in 2005, infuriating more than 100 minority associations. The pair issued apologies and agreed to cultural-diversity training, and their station broadcast free promotional announcements for the offended groups. The two remain on the air.

The first time this "I'm offended! Give me money!" crock reared its head, it should have been laughed out of the court of public opinion. But it wasn't, and the floodgates have been open ever since.

If some idiot gets on the radio and says something horrible about the Jews, I'll be mighty offended, but it's not going to ruin my day. However, if he gets up and attacks my daughter personally because of her race, religion, gender or supposed sexual proclivities, I might just shoot the bastard. I can relate to other people being offended that their daughters were singled out for attack, and I have no sympathy for Mr. Imus.

Imus was likely losing his audience, which is why MSNBC was happy to let him go.
Rosie, as much as we hate it, has drawn an audience to the View, so she could pull a Janet Jackson and wouldn’t be suspended, much less fired.
This ugly lard insulted Chinese people and got away with it. This useless turd says “ching chong “ and other nonsense syllables, mocking Chinese people. She was not kicked off her show.
Reason 1 - Chinese are not officially-government-designated protected class members. Chinese are achievers and so nothing happens if you insult them.
Reason 2 - lardlips is a member of a protected class. No one can accuse her of anything. She is automatically innocent.
