The politics of U.S. attorneys [GREAT ARTICLE]
The Washington Times ^ | Monday, March 26, 2007 | Donald Lambro, chief political correspondent

One of the most ridiculous charges being leveled in the often-hyperbolic reporting about the Bush administration’s decision to replace eight U.S. attorneys (out of 93) is the idea that the firings were — brace yourself — politically motivated.

“At the time of the change-over, a U.S. attorney in Arkansas was in the midst of investigating Bill and Hillary Clinton’s Whitewater real estate scandal and in Illinois another U.S. attorney was investigating Ways and Means Committee Chairman Daniel Rostenkowski who eventually went to jail.”

Most people I communicate with remember the Arkansas investigation, but have no recall of Rostenkowski. Go figure.
