Littlejohn: Up the Shatt al Arab without a paddle
The Daily Mail ^ | April 10, 2007 | Richard Littlejohn

Posted on 04/10/2007 6:43:16 AM PDT by Dudoight

Days like this it's difficult to know where to start. My initial instinct was to send up the whole business and turn the column into a spoof Great Buy-Ups In History.

You know the sort of thing: Churchill - My Battle With The Bottle.

Boadicea - I Feared I Was Going To Be Raped By The Romans.

Nelson - Hardy, and The Truth Behind That Kiss.

The Light Brigade - We Apologise To The Russians And Thank Them For Their Kindness.

To be honest, when I tipped a bucketload over all concerned in Friday's Mail, I did wonder if perhaps I'd gone a bit far, even by my standards.

I braced myself for a backlash, which never came. If anything, most of you thought I hadn't gone far enough.

Any doubt from which the sailors and marines may have benefited went out of the window the moment some of them sold their stories - although honourable mention must go to those who didn't.

The Ministry of Defence's complicity in this tawdry horror show is treasonable. But it's pretty much what we have come to expect from Blair's Brave New Britain.

No, I think he means precisely what you first thought. The British press is rather less constrained when it comes to language that the US press.

LOL! At any rate, I was pleased to see this brit opinion and the 66 responders were all disgusted with their 15 hostages.

Didn't you read the one who blamed the US? Their cow towing to islam both on British and foreign soil wasn't mentioned.

You are right as usual Richard. Unfortunately, we now live in an avaricious society stemming from too much Americanistic influence on culture. Of course, one must point the finger at the media in the first instance for its part in paying large sums of money for stories, and we the readers for desire to read them.

No..I didn’t read that. That is disgusting. Blame game, victimhood, avoid responsibility. Nuts.

How long before the ludicrous Faye Turney pops up on Celebrity Fat Club? I bet they didn't let her get in the dinghy first. This is a woman who is capable of capsizing the Ark Royal if she shifts her weight to the wrong cheek.

I guess appearing on Page 3 is out of the question then.

Agreed. It's always someone elses fault.

That's funny, I don't care who you are!
