Franken raised $1.3 million in first quarter (US Senate Update)

Minnesota Senate candidate Al Franken, a Democrat, announced today his campaign had raised more than $1.3 million in the first quarter of the year, finishing the period with over $1 million in the bank.

Franken, a former "Saturday Night Live'' performer and more recently a liberal radio talk show host, raised the money since announcing his candidacy on Feb. 14.

The campaign is still finalizing its numbers. The filing deadline is April 15.

Franken and fellow Democrat Mike Ciresi are hoping to take on GOP Sen. Norm Coleman, although Ciresi has not yet filed a statement of candidacy. Coleman's campaign did not immediately respond to requests for fundraising numbers.

Franken spokesman Andy Barr said the campaign was "thrilled'' with the totals.

"We've known for some time now that people are excited about Al's candidacy, and our fundraising success confirms that,'' he said in a prepared statement.

Interesting.

I'll be curious as to where Franken's money is coming from.

Hollywood? Limousine liberals?

Coleman better be raising money hand over fist. He'll need every cent of it in '08.

Comments or opinions - anyone?

Coleman has tons of bread and has been preparing for a tenacious re-election battle since the day he was elected.

I think this is good. Stuart Smalley will scare away any primary competition that could actually win the general.

I honestly don’t see Franken anywhere on the radar currently. I had no idea he was even fundraising let alone serious about running. I only saw like one article in the paper about him “learning about alfalfa or something in rural MN” and I instantly realized he has no chance.

Hopefully Pawlenty’s survival in 06 is a sign of good things for Coleman.

As stated on the earlier thread:

$1.3 million? That's more than his last movie grossed!

Anyone that would vote for this idiot is an idiot. The man has no experience in anything but negative emotions.
