The Dalai Lama has always been under threat from Chinese crazies, as well as from your garden variety loose nuts.
In a documentary of a year or so back, these were several shots of the DL being flanked by 4 to 6 big guys in his entourage wearing suits and ties, all with those small Uzi machine pistols (or equivalent) tucked under their jackets. They looked like serious characters.
Isn’t the Dalai Lama always lecturing the West that we over react to such threats?
I think they mean thoroughly frisked non-invasively. I doubt that body cavities are being searched.

I would be very surprised that al-Qa'ida would get to the Dalai Lama, unless a long range sniper is used, or perhaps a bomb. These two possibilities will be giving the DL's guards nightmares for sure.
Why does al-Qa'ida have a fatwa aginst the DL? If anyone knows, please post here or e-mail me privately.
