MOSCOW, March 30 (RIA Novosti) - Russian intelligence has information that the U.S. Armed Forces have nearly completed preparations for a possible military operation against Iran, and will be ready to strike in early April, a security official said.

The source said the U.S. had already compiled a list of possible targets on Iranian territory and practiced the operation during recent exercises in the Persian Gulf.

"Russian intelligence has information that the U.S. Armed Forces stationed in the Persian Gulf have nearly completed preparations for a missile strike against Iranian territory," the source said.

American commanders will be ready to carry out the attack in early April, but it will be up to the country's political leadership to decide if and when to attack, the source said.

Just a couple of points to mention :

* RIA is a state run Russian news agency.
* RIA reported a similar article recently that was based on an article written by a retired general, but it's worth noting that here in today's report the source seems to be direct from Russian intel.

Let's see. Scott Ritter and Seymour Hersch had us attacking 2 years ago in June. And Seymour had us attacking last June. I don't think I'll hold my breath on this one.

But I thought we were stretched so thin that we couldn't do a military strike? /s

Scott Ritter is a nobody and Seymour Hersch is a journalist.

It's interesting to see a Russian intel official quoted in a state run Russian news agency report.

The Russians really don't want to see an attack on Iran, and by leaking something like this to the press they may be hoping that it would spoil or at least delay any imminent plans.

Pinch of salt, of course, but it's interesting at least...

..well then, what the h*ll are they telling us for... Don't you think if you had any sort of intelligence you would move your Russian contractors and builders out of harms way. Surely your nuclear scientist are worth more to you then to some crazy mullahs aren't they?.....oh yeah, I forgot Chernobyl

Of course, keep in mind that Russia is a net oil exporter, and it is in Russia's interests to beat the war drum and raise the price of oil.

(Not that I care, I produce oil. But it's an old game.)

The attack can't begin until Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV travels to the Mid-East and tells leaders that we will most certainly be attacking.
I took a trip by myself in January of 2002 to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, and I told each of the heads of state that it was my view that George Bush had already made up his mind to go to war against Iraq, that that was a predetermined set course which had taken shape shortly after 9/11.

Pelosi makes second visit to Middle East By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer 26 minutes ago House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) arrived in Israel on Friday and planned to visit Syria, a country the Bush administration has shunned, on her second fact-finding trip to the Middle East since taking the gavel in January. Pelosi's repeat trip to the Middle East indicates she has no intention of letting the White House have the sole province on foreign policy. She has already forced legislation through the House that would order all combat troops out of Iraq by September 2008,...

Don't you think if you had any sort of intelligence you would move your Russian contractors and builders out of harms way.

But that's exactly what they have been doing.

"VIENNA, Austria — Russia is bringing home its technicians and engineers from Iran’s unfinished nuclear reactor site at a time of growing international pressure on Iran to curb its atomic ambitions, U.S. and European representatives said Tuesday.

A large number of Russian technicians, engineers and other specialists were flown from Iran to Moscow within the last week...

Asked about the approximately 2,000 Russian workers at Bushehr, the U.S. official said, “A good number of them have left recently.” - 03/21/07

There will almost certainly not be any strike on iran while our hostages are still there.

Maybe the iranians are thinking of that too?

Yep. Perhaps one of the reasons why they took them?
