PARIS: Riot police firing tear gas and brandishing batons clashed Tuesday with bands of youths who shattered windows and looted shops at a major Paris train station. Officials said nine people were arrested. Officers and police dogs charged at groups of marauding youths, some of them wearing hoods, who mingled with commuters and travelers at the Gare du Nord — one of Paris' most important transport hubs.

The violence did not appear directly related to France's presidential election in under four weeks, but highlighted the social and economic tensions that the country's new leader will inherit when he or she takes power in May.
Lines from Gare du Nord radiate out to the same suburbs north of Paris where rioting erupted in 2005. That violence was born of pent-up anger — especially among youths of immigrant origin — over years of high unemployment and racial inequalities. Those issues have both figured in the presidential campaign.

I don't think these 'youths' rioting is going to help Sego much. Sarko had better hope that it doesn't hurt her too much either or he will be facing Bayrou in the second round.

This poster was placed in mailboxes in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis, in an effort to remind the residents that unless they support their police, there will be civil war.
The heading reads:
"They Only Stop Troublemakers!"
Under the hat it reads:
"Deliberately led into traps, forced to bow before youths still holding a Molotov cocktail in their hands (knowing that this low life will be set free the next day), forced to watch youths break windows in the name of Allah, and then being accused of 'brutality' because of a simple ID verification..."
Followed by:
Support Your National Police before the inevitable civil war and before... that!
"That" refers to the French Islamic Republic, illustrated by the logo at the bottom which appears to be a French flag torn in the middle, though the meaning of the logo isn't entirely clear.

See that some people have already jumped to the conclusion that this is Muslim related. (Hint: There's a picture in the third bullet--they don't look particularly Muslim (in either dress or Arab ancestry).
That's a fascinating post you have there. Could the flag at the bottom have a bearded man (imam?) superimposed on it instead of being ripped as you say?
