Is Britain Going Wobbly?

Posted on 03/24/2007 3:02:25 PM PDT by Uncle Peter

Going Wobbly?

Where is the Next Winston Churchill or Margaret Thatcher?

The seizure of 15 British military patrol personnel in Iraqi waters is nothing short of an act of war. Yet the Brits are purposely downplaying this outrage and are rationalizing why fighting would not be "clever".  True, they are hampered by having to follow the Rules of Engagement - which are clearly de-escalatory - but this situation apparently justifies immediate and forceful retaliation.

Where is the publicly announced Ultimatum? Where is the massing and re-deployment of ships and additional military movements?  Have they completely degraded as a World Power as to let a government presided over by the megalomaniac Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad instigate it without fear of reprisals?

Where are the bold voices of Britain?

This cannot be from the BBC, which makes CBS look like General Patton.

Britain is on the path of becoming just another country, like Cameroon, instead of the great force for freedom and progress it once was.

Seriously, during the time of big bad Western Imperialism, Britain singlehandedly abolished the slave trade on the high seas. Everywhere where the British went deserve its gratitude from the United States to India to Australia.

Yet they have turned into a bunch of self-hating, socialist dolts. It is like watching an old grandfather go senile.

The one thing the Arabs respect is strength. Iran should have been bombed by now, imo.

But it's not just Britain. I think we'd be doing, or not doing, the same thing if our soldiers were kidnapped.

Ummmh. The top comment was written by FReeper UnclePeter and not the BBC. He just referred to the BBC article and the incident itself.

Rest assured. BBC hasn't changed sides. They are still invested in Islamofascist victory.

One of the problems with having a large Muslim population into the country, the politicians are afraid to act. I would summit that in 1937 Brittan had a significant number of Nazi leaning English natives they didn't want to offend. Time for John Bull to reclaim his cajones.

The one thing MUSLIMS respect is strength. This includes Iranians, who are 95% not Arabs.

Somebody should post this whole piece from the BBC. It's truly disgusting. Here's a quote from the general:

"The rules are very much de-escalatory, because we don't want wars starting. The reason we are there is to be a force for good, to make the whole area safe, to look after the Iraqi big oil platforms and also to stop smuggling and terrorism there.

"So we try to downplay things. Rather then roaring into action and sinking everything in sight we try to step back and that, of course, is why our chaps were effectively able to be captured and taken away."

This confirms my earlier reaction, that the rules of engagement did not allow the British troops to defend themselves. Disgusting. This general evidently supports sending troops into a dangerous war zone not to fight if necessary but to be "a force for good," whatever the hell that means.

Europeans (including the United Kingdom) have voluntarily become socialist states with large, growing Muslim populations. There will be no new Charles de Gaulle, Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher or Otto von Bismarck. Rather, we will probably see new Neville Chamberlains, Pierre Lavals and Joseph Darnands, or I miss my guess.
