WASHINGTON The anonymous creator of the video comparing campaign to George Orwell's '1984' is an ex-employee of a digital consulting firm with ties to rival candidate .
Philip de Vellis, a strategist with Blue State Digital, acknowledged that he was the creator of the video, which portrayed Clinton as a Big Brother figure and urged support for Obama's presidential campaign.
De Vellis said he resigned from the firm on Wednesday after he learned that he was about to be unmasked by liberal pundit Arianna Huffington on her Web site, . He later posted his own lengthy admission and explanation on the Huffington site.
"I made the "Vote Different" ad because I wanted to express my feelings about the Democratic primary, and because I wanted to show that an individual citizen can affect the process," de Vellis wrote.
Blue State designed Obama's Web site and one of the firm's founding members, Joe Rospars, took a leave from the company to work as Obama's director of new media.

Your link just dumped me onto Fox News, but the article was nowhere to be found on that page.
Boy, talk about your tempest in a tea cup.
Just reported on tv.

Our statement on the 1984 video
Statement from Thomas Gensemer, Managing Director, Blue State Digital:
This afternoon, an employee at our firm, Phillip de Vellis, received a call from Arianna Huffington of "The Huffington Post" regarding the "1984" video currently circulating online. Initially, de Vellis refused to respond to her requests. He has since acknowledged to Blue State Digital that he was the creator of the video.
Pursuant to company policy regarding outside political work or commentary on behalf of our clients or otherwise, Mr. de Vellis has been terminated from Blue State Digital effective immediately.
Blue State Digital is under contract with the Obama Campaign for technology pursuits including software development and hosting. Additionally, one of our founding partners is on leave from the company to work directly for the campaign at headquarters.
However, Blue State Digital is not currently engaged in any relationship with the Obama Campaign for creative or non-technical services.
Mr. de Vellis created this video on his own time. It was done without the knowledge of management, and was in no way tied to his work at the firm or our formal engagement [on technology pursuits] with the Obama campaign.
I have spoken with David Plouffe, Sen. Obamaâs campaign manager, to inform him of this action and am appreciative of his understanding and ongoing support of our work.
We wish Mr. de Vellis well in his future endeavors.

Y'know, if you see it on a television station, it's pretty darned hard to produce a link. Hint: It probably hasn't been formatted and added to Foxnews.com.
The MSM can KMA
"Blue State Digital, a company created by members of Howard Dean's Internet Team."
The plot thickens. Now, I have to leave to scrub myself after visiting Puffington's site.
Huffington Post Claims Sherrod Brown's Campaign Internet Director Created Hillary 1984 You Tube Ad
If you click on the link in this entry's title you can read a blog post by Arianna Huffington in which she claims that Philip de Vellis, who she describes as follows: "the Internet communications director for Sherrod Brown's 2006 Senate campaign, and who now works at Blue State Digital, a company created by members of Howard Dean's Internet Team." Now we are not big fans of Arianna Huffington, although we read her blog. She is a former right-wing conservative who supposedly had this "road to Damascus" experience and has now become this left-wing blogger. Color us skeptical, but she has run columns from both Sherrod Brown and his wife Connie Schultz. She would seemingly have good contacts with the Brown campaign people. So we present this information for what it is worth.
