Also, Politico.COM has put together a Sunday Talk Show Tip Sheet

Last week was all about the Walter Reed "scandal."  They got a pretty good couple of days out of that, but by Sunday enough actual facts were coming out that the story was losing steam.  Bob Dole's appointment to the panel, along with several injured vets from the current conflict, and Dole's appearances on the Sunday shows he did also went a long way to put a stake through the heart of that media firestorm.  But I wouldn't be a bit surprised to hear Abu Ghraib compared to Walter Reed at least once this week.  The DBM won't back down on their "conclusions," (that "everyone" accepts as true) but they also won't push them as heavily.

Like last week when discussing Iraq there will be as little said about the surge as possible.  Certainly a consensus that it's working won't be allowed to emerge.  Far from it.  In fact the emphasis this week will be on the four year anniversary of the start of the war and of the "huge cost" of this "misadventure."  Watch for all of the shows to highlight all of the conventional wisdom about the "mistakes" and "lies" that are the foundation of their narrative.  With the likes of Kerry, Leahy, Murtha, Brzezinski and the rest of the "back to the sixties" crowd being trotted out you know that we are going to be treated to the tired old rhetoric of of the so called "peace" movement.  Hopefully The Gathering of Eagles will be a big enough success that they can't ignore it and still report on the sad collection of Stalinists and Jihadis protesting misbehaving in Washington today.

The third prong of the DBM/Dhimmicrat attack plan for this weekend, and the one where they think they have the most chance of "scoring," is the faux scandal over the US Attorney firings.  They have scored all of the points they are likely to with the firings themselves.  It's going to be dangerous for them to actually trot out some of these folks.  Note, for example, that John McKay, the US Attorney from Oregon who refused to investigate the massive vote fraud in the Dhimmicrat victory in the governors race in 2004.  Iglesias is likely guilty of the same thing, but his criminal conduct may be a more easily obscured.  Plus, criticizing him can be cast as racist and anti-Hispanic.  A twofer.  But the emphasis will be on the "cover up" of the process, not the propriety of the firings themselves.  They'll start with the premise that the firings were illegitimate and not allow any questioning of that "established fact," while pushing the notion that Gonzalez "lied to Congress" in his testimony.  They want to establish an aura of inevitability of Gonzalez' resignation and then stoke suspicions about Karl Rove and even the President being "damaged."  Howard Dean telegraphed their end game with his comment that "this could be George Bush's Watergate."  The nutroots want Bush impeached and the next two years will be nothing but the Dhimmicrat's attempts to manufacture grounds for doing just that.  This is just the latest step in that campaign.

On to the shows.

NBC Meet The Press says that it's all about the four year anniversary, with anti-war "activist" Tony Andrews and CAIR's favorite ex-Admiral in the House of Representatives, Joe Sestak, for the moonbat left and Tom DeLy and Richard Perle for the evil neo-con cabal.  The choice of DeLay and Perle, two prominent Republicans with potential legal liability brought about by partisan political prosecutions, the assumed "guilty until proven innocent" on the part of the DBM will be a cloud hovering over the set.  "Are you now or have you ever been a conservative?"  The left is looking to get a little of their own back.  Look for Henry Waxman to start talking about incriminating video tapes hidden in hollowed out pumpkins.  They've already managed to blacklist DeLay and keep him from getting a job with CNN and they've delegitimized as a News organization unfit to attend and report on their events (along with the Christian Broadcasting Network and Washington Times reporters).  They are mad with hate and don't give a damn about the consequences of their actions, so long as they kill some conservatives along the way.  Note: MTP has added Chuckie Schumer as a last minute guest to bolster the direct attacks on the administration over "Attorneygate."  I guess they were feeling left out of the this weeks "buzz" and Chucky just couldn't let a weekend go by...

CBS Face The Nation brings on Robert Gates for his first appearance as Secretary of Defense.  The questions for him on Iraq won't be about the surge and Bob Schieffer will probably never mention the word "success" once.  Instead he will asked to account for all of the mistakes and for the scandalous treatment and suffering of injured vets at that torture chamber called Walter Reed.  Diane Feinstein is on to give the compassionate, peace loving Dhimmicrat's position on all of the evil that McChimpy Bushitler has wrote on our poor troops by actually sending them to a... horrors... war.  Somehow I doubt the hundreds of millions in defense contracts her "war profiteer" husband's firms have landed (thanks to her intervention?) will come up.  Since DiFi has just had to ask the President to declare the fruit growing areas of California a disaster area due to record breaking cold temperatures, I don't expect her to repeat any of her wild claims from a few weeks ago about global warming.  But it's still Bush's fault.

Fox News Sunday offers two of the fired attorneys a likely uncritical platform to air their version of the story.  Somehow I doubt they'll be confessing to obstructing justice by refusing to prosecute "friendly" politicians, both Dhimmicrat and Republican, over vote fraud.  Then Snarlin' Arlen Specter and that paragon of virtue, Jon F'n Carry, have their chances to condemn McChimpy Bushitler.  Chris Wallace must really want to host a Dhimmicrat debate.  We do, at least, have the "normal" panel, so we can hope for a smack down like in the good old days.  Given some of the comments the last few weeks I think even Juan has been missing some of that recently.

CNN Late Edition has the usual "cast of thousands," headlined by Okinawa Jack Murtha and Zbiggy Brzezinski, of Jimmy Carter's foreign policy brain trust.  They leaven this mix with minor players such as Stephen Hadley, retired military personel (and Bush critics) Joulwan and Lang.  Somehow they allow Michael Gordon, the NY Times military reporter who strayed off the reservation in the last few weeks, actually daring to say that he wants us to win in Iraq!  Heresy!  Perhaps he's on to begin his rehabilitation after having a "come to Jesus" meeting with Pinch.  Or maybe it was a "come to Pinch" meeting.  Wrapping up this lovely little package are Snakehead and Jabba Crowley facing off with Human Events' Terry Jeffrey.  I expect Carville to be in full on attack dog mode to silence Jeffrey giving the floor to Crowley as the "reasonable one."

ABC This Week lines up Leahy solo against John Cornyn on the US Attorney's and has Stephen Hadley representing the White House on foreign policy.  An ABC News show seemingly stacked on the Republican's side?  But what's this?  Cornyn and Leahy are allies on forcing the administration to release any and all documents in time of war in a bill they are co-sponsoring expanding the Freedom of Information act?  And they both seem to want to revise the Patriot Act to better protect the rights of potentially abused Americans citizens persons (pedophiles and terrorists are people too!).  This is Hadley's second go around for the day, but somehow I don't think anyone will be listening to anything he says, and he certainly won't be producing any sound bites that get lots of airplay.  At least he hopes not, because if he does it's because he messed up and said something critical of the President.

The Saturday Shows are predictable.  The Beltway Boys repeat the weeks conventional wisdom on Iraq and Gonzalez, but at least throw in a little bit on March Madness basketball.  I can't wait to here who they're pulling for </NOT>.  On CNBC's Tim Russert Show Lil Timmah's guest pushing a book this week is Ralph Nader.  This is likely not going to be a wholly friendly interview, particularly if Ralph makes noises about getting in the 2008 race.  Fox News Watch continues to ignore the gross partisanship and fraud in their profession and instead provide a platform for moonbats Jane and Neal to attack their blood enemies, the Republicans.  The Journal Editorial Report takes a look at what's really going on with the US Attorney's imbroglio, which will likely be sober and informative.  Therefore no one will hear anything about it outside of those stalwarts who can brave the obscene hour this show airs.  They also appear to be the only show talking about KSM's admissions this week.  Everyone else must have decided that Rosie O'Donnell has spoken on the subject therefore there's nothing more that needs to be said.  And she was firmly on KSM's side.  I wonder if the folks on JER will talk about the obscene one?

I know that the world is an imperfect place but I am increasingly worried about the extremes on the left.  They are tottering on the edge of full blown madness (and straying beyond it in too many cases).  The things that seemingly sane people say and actually seem to believe about the world today and particularly about the President are truly frightening.  I think the "scandal du jour" mindset has taken hold to such an extent that if they don't somehow bring down Bush and Cheney that they will drive a large portion of their "base" to acts of violence and there's no telling who will be made to pay for that bit of madness.  The Dhimmicrats and the DBM have been promising "bread and circuses," with a finale of the heads of Bush and Cheney of pikes.  But all they've been delivering is the message to "let them eat cake."

"Things fall apart, the center will not hold," wrote Yeats in his apocalyptic poem The Second Coming.  I look for imagery like this to become very popular and for nihilism and anarchist sentiments to be thrust to the forefront of leftist politics.  "Burn it down" will once again be the motto and we may return to the "days of rage."  Hey, everything old is new again, and John Kerry and Jane Fonda are once again at the forefront of a "movement."  Fortunately we have more people whose eyes are open and how know the score.  The Gathering of Eagles today proves that.

We live in interesting times.

This should be cross posted to my blog at Wizards.townhall.com later today. This post exists primarily as a heads up for who is on the weekend talks shows, what they've been invited on to push (based on their recent pronouncements) and the spin (meme) the DBM is likely trying to push based on that information. All of this is prep work for the weekly Sunday Morning Talk Show thread posted by Alas Babylon!. That thread provides a live commentary and analysis of the Sunday talking head shows, with valuable insight and exceptional fact checking. we are the Jedi Council of FreeRepublic, at least in regards to these DBM gabfests. You wanna know what was said and what it meant, as well as where they messed up? Read that thread!

Mark Kilmer has posted his excellent preview of the Sunday shows over at Redstate.COM.

Great post a lot of us are at the point where we need action or at the very least "leadership" on several issues that are tearing conservatives apart.!!

But I wouldn't be a bit surprised to hear Abu Ghraib compared to Walter Reed at least once this week.

#####

One of the Dem committee members at the Valerie Plame exposition brought up Abu Ghraib, so we can be sure it will pop up anywhere.

Former Representative Tom Andrews, Democrat - Maine
National director of the "Win Without War" coalition of anti-war groups

&&&&

Tom Andrews has done more to hurt the campaign of Murtha/Pelosi than anyone else. He is a gift that keeps on giving - to us. I am surprised that he hasn't been put in a corner somewhere and told not to open his mouth.

One example: He made the video of Murtha that was arranged to show to Win Without War 'house parties" and instead got shown all over TV, after its appearance on YouTube! The video where Murtha was explaining how the dems were going to shut down the military in Iraq.

I'll be on and off today, but gone "nest" weekend. Sorry for the confusion and Happy St. Patrick's Day to you too!

I really don't disagree with what you wrote. Like you, I do not hold any promise that President Bush will change his methods or actions between now and the end of his term.

Overall, I approve of the job President Bush has done and his MBA management style has been good for government. My only problem with him has been his not realizing he is in a war with Democrats, not simply a difference of opinion. The outcome will determine our nations future after President Bush is long gone. Proof of this is the continued support for national health care Hillary talks about at every opportunity. If a Hillary Clinton is elected she will claim she has a mandate from the people behind her and push her health care plans through congress.

As for Gonzales, he does not appear strong enough for getting the job done in the DOJ. (Just my opinion.) As DeGenova (sp?) said, getting rid of Gonzales would not help at this point so I don't agree he should be fired. Just as you pointed out.

I still hold out hope the GOP candidate will swear to enforce ALL laws and stop letting Democrats escape accountability, as has been done for six years now.
