Rudy Giuliani remains the most popular contender in the race for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination in the United States, according to a poll by Opinion Research Corporation released by CNN. 34 per cent of respondents would support the former New York City mayor in a 2008 primary.

Arizona senator John McCain is second with 18 per cent, followed by former House of Representatives speaker Newt Gingrich with nine per cent, and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney also with nine per cent.

Duncan Hunter: Nov. 2006: 2%; Jan 2007: 1%; March 2007: *.

More and more Republicans are realizing that Rudy is the only one who can beat Hillary and he is the leader the country needs during war time.

I really want Fred Thompson in the race. If he doesn't run then I would consider Rudy as having the best shot at keeping Hillary out of the White House.

McCain and Hunter can commiserate.

Fred Thompson has no chance of either getting the nomination or beating Hillary if he did.

But him being in the race could split the Republican vote just enough for McCain to be the nominee and Hillary will certainly beat him.

"Fred Thompson has no chance of either getting the nomination or beating Hillary if he did."

Bunch of BS. Fred will throw his hat in if McCain's #s numbers continue to fall (and they will), and he'll then wipe the floor with your RINO pal Rudy. Enjoy the current poll #s while you can.

Most of us who appreciate Rudy would love to see Fred in the race. It's a win-win situation.

I disagree.

If Fred Thompson runs it becomes a two man race between Thompson and Giuliani. I honestly believe that the only way McCain will even finish a distant 3rd in primary voting is by Democrats crossing over to vote for him.

You have that one right! Thompson is also a good friend of McCain having been only one of four Senators in 2000 to support McCain. Makes you wonder if he gets in the race, it will be to help McCain. That's where my money is. This is totally orchestrated between Thompson and McCain.

Did I forget to mention Thompson was a big supporter of McCain's CFR bill? His hearings into China were pretty much a sham and Senator Inhofe had to take to the floor of the Senate with his speech on "Theft of Nuclear Secrets" as the investigation was less than thorough. Did I also forget to mention that he voted NO on one article of impeachment against Clinton.

Some people have short memories especially on here so I am reminding people of who Thompson is not the one on TV who he plays a DA!

I was just think that it had been a good while since someone posted a warmed over meaningless bogus rudy poll. Sure to bring out all the closet liberals.

I guess McCain and Hunter and all their supporters have decided to cave and "let" the GOP/MSM/fill-in-the-blank-bogeyman "shove" Rudy Giuliani down the nation's throat?

Or am I missing something here?

Rudy Giuliani Nov 2006 33% Jan 2007 32% March 2007 34%

Hardly. Rudy's unchanged in the last 5 months.

Hillary must really want Rudy to be her "opponent" in this race. She holds the reins and rides the Opinion Research Corp. pony.
