Just a question. I was looking at the IRS website, see link, listing recent revocations of exempt organization determinations, and noticed that The Paul Revere Society had it's status revoked in June of last year. The website for the society associated with Michael Savage still indicates it is a charitable non-profit. Does anyone know if the revoked Paul Revere Society is the one associated with Michael Savage. I quit listening to him several months ago and have not heard anything regarding this issue. Has there been any discussion of this on his show?

The Directors of The Paul Revere Society (the only such organization registered with the IRS) are Michael Weiner, 150 Shoreline Highway, Mill Valley CA 94941 and Janet Weiner of the same adddress. Michael Weiner is Michael Savage's real name. As of January, 31 2004, it had $962,000 in assets, and was spending $100,000 / year on fundraising (and, it seems, little else).

Sorry, that's of December 31, 2004. The Paul Revere Society spent a whopping $18,000 on "Education Services," its stated mission, but $85,000 on fundraising, $20,000 to Michael Savage to sublet his office space, $10,000 in bank fees, $9000 in "outside services."

I would go elsewhere with my "charitable" contributions.

Tax Shelter?

Looks like a pretty lousy tax shelter. 501(c)3s are supposed to actually give charitable contributions, something Mr. Savage/Weiner doesn't seem to have bothered to do. But it does seem to have covered a lot of his day-to-day expenses. One would have to look at this a little more closely, but this looks like a pretty amateurish attempt at tax fraud.

I have to say I find it a bit odd that you say you quit listening to him several months ago, but you're going out of your way to check up him on the IRS web site.

"Has there been any discussion of this on his show?"

No, not that I remember. He really has not discussed the PRS at all, IIRC. He has been real busy with his radio show, talking about Borders, Language and Culture. He's been talking about the presidential run question (4211702 total votes since 02/28/07, as of Mar. 12, 2007). He's talked about his book re-releases. He's talked about the islamo-fascist killers doing Sudden Jihad in Salt Lake. He's talked about the RINOS running for the president. He's talked about how President Bush doesn' care about enforcing our borders. He's talked about the fact that the President COULD win the war, but somehow wants to soft-shoe the process. The whole ROE issue in Iraq is very counter-productive. (Ask corlorde about this topic - he's very well - informed on it.)

My personal thought is that Savage has a lot of irons in the fire. Some ideas take off and fluorish, and he then pays attention to them. Other activitiies (like the hats and the doormats) are lost in the busy-ness, I guess, but I don't know for sure.

Good question, though.

I didn't exactly "go out of my way". I was visiting the website in connection with one of my tax clients and recognized the name and checked the PRS website to see if there was any mention of the issue. Finding none, I posted my question.

Pinging TSN.

Anyone heard any big talk of the PRS lately?

It's been kind of a non-issue in the recent past.

Recently he hasn't talked about the Paul Revere Society much on the show.

He has been doing some fundraising though to try and help out the soldiers and Marines we send over to Iraq who then get charged with stuff like firing too many bullets at the enemy.

Taxman Lyrics

Let me tell you how it will be,
There’s one for you, nineteen for me,
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don’t take it all,
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I’ll tax your seat,
If you get too cold, I’ll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.
Taxman.
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
Don’t ask me what I want it for
(Taxman Mister Wilson)
If you don’t want to pay some more
(Taxman Mister Heath),
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
Now my advice for those who die,
Declare the pennies on your eyes,
‘Cos I’m the Taxman,
Yeah, I’m the Taxman.
And you’re working for no-one but me,
Taxman.

I haven't heard anything regarding the Paul Revere Society. I do remember awhile ago Savage quit selling stuff on his website because people were "out to get him" so he stopped. I know he's back selling stuff, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Interesting.

Wow, that's a lot, $962,000. I've started listening to Savage again just recently, but if he's sitting on that kind of money, I really think he should do more with it.

So now that it's not an IRS recognized charity anymore, does that mean it becomes his $962,000?

I haven't heard him talk about it in a long time. I seem to remember he was ticked about something regarding it last summer so that may have been it.

An Internal Revenue Bulletin (IRB), Recent Revocations of 501(c)(3) Determinations, Recent Revocations and Deletions from Cumulative List, did show

The Paul Revere Society of Mill Valley, CA is listed.

Mill Valley is Marin County, CA across the Golden Gate bridge from S.F. Dr. Savage has one of his homes there. This is likely the Paul Revere Society.

I don't know why 501(c)(3) was revoked but it's easy to guess why.

Starting with perhaps the most valid reason and moving on to the left's patented tactics I will present by guess.

First, this 3/6/2003 reader's comment posted on the conservative web site, frontpagemag.com, says "Tax Exemptions for Savage," "TAX EXEMPT ??? We hope not...," he's too political to have status, the poster said.

Fine. "Good" coservatives don't like Coulter or Savage. "Good" coservatives like to just keep on truckling.

Lastly, in the bad old days of the "Fairness Doctrine" it was common for liberal shills to enter complaints with the FCC against a radio station which was up for license renewal. Of course they complained about the "unfairness" of anything close to right talk.

In the 1990s it was common for Democrat representatives to get "complaints" from "constituents" demanding action against evil doers like WorldNetDaily and the Western Journalism Center.

The Democrat representative eager to right wrong doing would send the complaint to the Clinton IRS. The Clinton IRS eager to "serve the people" and right wrong doing would do the rest.

So now there's no "Fairness Doctrine" and no Rat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party) IRS.

What's left? A lot, 501(c)(3) complaints, feigned outrage at "mean" talk, "unfair" cable news organizations. . . .

Hveen't heard a word. I'm guessing he gets harrassed by the taxman at the behest of his political enemies who would do anything to shut him down. He might have been better off to drop his 501(C) status and tell 'em all to shove it.

I expect if he gets pi$$ed off enough, he'd probably start openly supporting Bob Schultz or Devvy Kidd in their tax revolt efforts.
