McCain is trying to work the system the same way his Michigan campaign manager did. ( Joe Schwartz).

Schwartz was elected to his single term in Congress by crossover votes from Rats. That is what McCain is fishing for.
Schwartz was booted from office in 2006 when the Republican vote wasn't divided and the Rat crossovers weren't a factor.

Schwartz is still a bitter old man and I expect McCain will be also.
