Is Purchasing Carbon Offsets Similar To Naming A Star?

Purchasing carbon offsets brokered by AlGore reminds me of the sales gimmickry surrounding the “Naming Stars” routine; except with star naming, everyone understands from the onset, it’s a novelty item.

Sure, you've named the star, but who really gives a rodent's behind what you've named "your" star?

Does anyone know if Al Gore uses chlorine in his pool or does he have a bromine system? If he is using chlorine and heating his pool he is really contributing to the hole in the ozone.

Plenty of real Carbon credits for sale.

Five bucks and a pint will allow the purchase of unused credits on the streets of most cities.

Go ahead and GOOGLE "carbon offsets".

You will find plenty of organizations willing to take your money in exchange for these 'credits' that really don't amount to anything.

In fact, the paper they are printed on or the bandwidth used to transmit the credits probably uses up a good deal of carbon itself!

There's a hilarious show on HGTV where Ed Bagley, Jr. saves the planet with his own energy efficient lifestyle. He had to go to some awards ceremony at Lake Tahoe and drove his Prius with the "carbon offset" bumper sticker, feeling good about saving the planet. His wife flew there commercially, with, I'm guessing, 100 other people, because she didn't want to drive. His getting on the plane with her would have made no more difference in energy consumption as the plane was already going there with other passengers. His driving himself was wasteful, but he had that cool sticker that gave him absolution. LOL

I think the whole carbon offset thing will backfire big time. As the global warming nuts start demanding more and more "sacrifice", the average joe will see the elites "buying" their way out of any inconvienience.

These phony liberals are the picture of excess consumption. They'll spend two grand on a purse and five hundred bucks for a pair of shoes. Their bed sheets cost more than most of us earn in a month. The amount many of them pay for gas and electric exceed what the average homeowner pays as a mortgage. They have to have several homes, i.e., a mansion as their primary residence, a ranch in Montana or Wyoming, an apartment in NYC, a condo or beach house in Hawaii, all of which they travel between at their whim. Let these pukes move to a modest home, drive a single fuel-efficient vehicle and travel mostly by public transportation, then maybe I'll pay some attention to their blabber about my carbon footprint.

Do you think algore has the sign by his pool that says, "Don't pee in our pool, we don't swim in your toilet!"

Or do you think he gave Bill Clinton a key to the pool house so when he is in town, he can swing by with a waitress from the local truck stop?

Amen! And the rest of us are labeled demons for shopping at Walmart to put clothes on our kids backs. We can only shop there because we get taxed more after they go to Congress to testify on some nutty proposal. And yet then they complain that the contents of their extravagant goodie bags at awards ceremonies might get taxed (how unfair). Ooo, now I'm riled up.

When I was a child in Catholic School, Sister Victorette told us that by saying daily indulgences, we could offset (pay-off) the minutes in firey hell that we rack up for each of our daily sins. As fifth graders, we concluded that this system was waaaay cool -- that we could still sin and get away with very little sacrifice.

So far, so good. So, where does Gore buy his ‘carbon offsets’? According to The Tennessean newspaper’s report, Gore buys his carbon offsets through Generation Investment Management. a company he co-founded and serves as chairman:

Ebay has several carbon offsets for sale by clever individuals. I need to get into this racket. I can design some frilly important looking document, print them out, and get some guilty environmentalist Gorebot to buy them. Maybe go to the theaters where "The Inconvenient Truth" is showing and set up a booth. I'll have my fishing cabin in no time.

Bromine is far more reactive than chlorine and has been blamed for ozone loss proportionately.

Ozone purification is the way to go, not of the air but actively used in the pool.
