That is an excellent idea and I think the best place to start would be in China, seeing as how they are building coal plants every week.

Hello? Hello? Is this thing on?

Somehow I knew the headline referred to Hansen before I read the article. He is building a career on the alleged accuracy of the global warming computer forcasts.

The fact is, if you scratch an advocate for global warming - any advocate - you'll find someone who believes fervently that the human race would be far better off than it is today if we all simply went back to living in caves, spent our days grubbing for roots and edible tubers, and our nights cowering by the fire and searching each other for lice.

Is TXU going to cover 10% of the land area of the state with propeller farms? (Those windmills that generate 100% of the time they are not needing the power, and only 1/3 of the time when power is needed?)?

Or is TXU planning to build Nukes?

The equity group, led by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and Texas Pacific Group, agreed to stop plans to build eight new coal-fired power plants, not to propose new coal-fired plants outside Texas and to support mandatory national caps on emissions linked to global warming."

Nice scam. Say you were going to build coal plants (true or not), announce that you will stop this plan, earn carbon credits.

"The equity group, led by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co."

No surprise that financial traders would prefer to make their money off financial paper trades than by building something.

Enron had "built" fictional plants in Russia which they intended to "close" in order to earn carbon credits.

And to think that our tax dollars are paying this assclown's salary.

I would really smile if President Bush went to New Mexico and stated that henceforth the country would mine the clean coal in a small part of the Escalente National Monument grounds. IIRC it is one of only two places in the world with significant reserves of an especially clean burning coal. The other is in Indonesia, controlled by ex42's patron, Riady. Most people have no idea about ex42'2 exclusion to mining.

To his credit, Hansen does seem to consistently call for more nuclear power as one alternative to coal. Unlike some of his fellow travelers, he doesn't seem to want the US to adopt a stone age culture to reduce CO2. (Of course, he's still a nutter for believing in faerie tales!)
