Chinese Navy's latest wartoys.
Interesting color.
not bad..gun, point defence, sat com, ssm x 16, pt def, chopper
Helipads on each one.
Are they real ..?? They look like toys to me .. they seem too streamlined for real ships.
Maybe these are just the versions they make for Wholesale Tool and Walmart.
Of course! Nothing but the best stolen American technology.
First picture ship is different from pictures two and three. Notice first destroyer has two stacks.
Last picture is faux.
Second ship back, 169. Notice the hull number doesn't advance forward of the gun, as on the other two. Plus the numbers don't seem to bend with the chine of hull.
Way back ships, the hull number are almost in the water.
Fishing reefs for the waters around Taiwan!
Notice in the first picture, the shadow on the building (upper left of picture) and no shadow of the ship's outline on the building behind it.
Sure looks like a cut and paste to me.
Wonder where they got the Gas Turbine technology?
Proof that the New Democrat Third Way "progressives" and their Republican "free trader" partners are achieving great success in "raising everyone's boat." Congratulations!
Pretty much nothing American in the PLAN surface Navy. Hulls and most major weapons systems are Russian, while the electronics and the AAW suite are French.
They may not look like much now but if not for the US Navy, this could be a picture of the Japanese Imperial Navy, thirsting to OWN the pacific ocean. We underestimated the japs 70 years ago, and paid dearly for it...
They're legitimate hull numbers of ships that actually exist and that appear to be of the correct class.
Well, you have to keep in mind that pic is of EVERY remotely modern destroyer the Chinese have.
I'd argue the Japanese are more underrated now than they were in 1941. Plenty of pics of the Japanese Naval Self-Defense Force that are more impressive.
Not quite every vessel, it is missing 7 more destroyers.
The boats in the ship are 2 x type 052B, 1 x 052C, 1 x 051B, and the final two in the background are likely the 2 x type 052's. What is missing in the photograph is the other 052C, pennant 170 which was undergoing a refit at the time, the two type 051C's (one shown in the first picture), and the four Sovremennys.
The PLAN has a total of 13 modern destroyers.
Continuing, in the last 5-6 years the Chinese have built 78 new, modern major combatants and added them to their fleet. As a comparison, in that same time, we have built 46 new major combatants and added them to our fleet. But the kicker is this: In that same time period, we have decommissioned 49 major combatants, many of them with 10-15 years service life remaining (Spruance Class Destroyers, LA Class subs, Tara Class Amphibs, etc.). That means we have a net loss of three major combatants.
The chinese have decomissioned none of their vessels so they have increased their fleet by 78 vessels.
That trend , if continued (and it looks like it will continue), means the PLAN will rapidly catch up with and pass our US Navy in the Western Pacific in the next few years. IMHO, it dare not be discounted, scoffed at, or ignored.
I will have my 2007 update to my site that focuses on this ready within the next week or so. In the mean time, go there and look at the other updates and information. Their build rate and the shear numbers of new, modern classes of vessels if phenominal...and we are the main source of funding.

Just wondering if the Chi-Coms named one of their tin cans after President Bill Clinton. It certainly would be fitting since he was responsible for them obtaining missile technology in return for cash to his coffers.
I meant that honestly .. so if you're making fun of me .. I don't appreciate it.
I'm a military buff .. meaning I collect pictures of different aircraft and ships, and these pictures look like pictures painted of what the ships should look like, and not the actual ships themselves. Sometimes the artist's drawings of aircraft and ships is different than reality.
Nope..I Never do that, ever.
I was referring to some of the wierd colors and finishes China seems to like to use on their bottom-line tool exports. I have never seen a pink lathe, yet, but it would not surprise me.
I think a glaring white for a warship is a little strange..Like a pink lathe.
Well you started it
Remember "Dazzle Camoflage", to fool optical rangefinders?
Yes, they may be small potatoes now but one doesn't ignore a people with 4-5 times your population and pipe dreams of taking over the world this century. 200 million chinese invading israel sounds crazy, yes? It's been right there in the book of revelation for 2000 years.
Not so small. Right now it would be hard to pick who had in actuality the second most powerful navy in the world - between China, Japan, Russia, or the UK
The UK navy. It was in the battle of the Spanish Armada of 1588(400 years ago)that England wrested control of the seas from spain. Although the naval competition went on for long after that, that was the tipping point. Thus SA is spanish speaking but ENGLISH is the world language because the ENGLISH NAVY dominated all the seaports of the world. The ENGLISH NAVAL EMPIRE(commonwealth)lasted for approx 300 years.
Our own country was founded by primarily englishmen/UK people. Language, customs, religion. But it naturally divided into the 2 basic english "inventions" : the industrial system of the north and the plantation system of the south. Thus the basis for the American Civil War.
So now we have the chinese whacking satellites as a STAR WARS demo. We were doing that 20 years ago(SDI). But beware, they have 3-4 times our manpower and make no bones about their wanting to control the whole world. Just suppose that THEY stumbled onto a technology that wiped out our entire navy in one hour. I know what it is....
The USSR introduced gas turbines on their warships much before the West did so-Those Chinese turbines are probably Ukranian.
Aren't most new warships increasingly streamlined???
Ah! I did not know this! Thanks for the education.
China would probably take that spot once the EU (re)starts supplying weaponry to them. But the problem for the PLAN is that they are surrounded by rather formidable navies like Japan,South Korea & the USN.
Yea there is. Look behind the second stack and you will see it. The sun was probably somewhere around the ship's 11 o'clock.
Gas turbine-powered warships have been around for almost 40 years. It's not exactly secret.
Complete BS. China gets most of its military technology from Russia and France simply by whipping out its wallet and buying it.
"Way back ships, the hull number are almost in the water."
If you look closely there seems to be some differences in equipment on deck too. It's been photoshopped.
Or amazingly it's a different class
The first two ships are the 168 Guangzhou and the 169 Wuhan of the Type 052B Guangzhou class (NATO code name Luyang I)
The third ship is the 171 Haikou of the later Type 052C Lanzhou class (NATO code name Luyang II) with Vertical launch missiles and phased array radar
"Aren't most new warships increasingly streamlined???"
I would imagine so .. but I guess what bothered me was the ships just didn't look real .. more like an artist's rendering. Maybe it's just me.
I'm not saying they couldn't have those ships .. but they may not have been built yet .. and what we were seeing were only pictures of what they are PLANNING TO BUILD.
Those group images might have been photoshopped, but these ships do exist.Just google up Type-051C,052B,05C etc-atleast one of each for almost 2 years.
And Russia and France stole the technology from the US.
Beautiful vessels, #115 in particular.
