Serbs dismiss Kosovo plan

BELGRADE: Kosovo Serbs and the influential Serbian Orthodox Church on Tuesday urged the government in Belgrade to reject a UN plan for Kosovo, saying it opens the way for secession of the southern province. The government of Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica immediately convened to adopt a “resolution” that would serve as Serbia’s official response to the recently presented UN plan on Kosovo’s future.

The plan by UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari envisages internationally supervised statehood for the disputed territory. The Serbian National Council, which represents some 100,000 Serbs still living in the province amid an overwhelming majority of independence-seeking ethnic Albanians, blasted the UN proposal as “absolutely unacceptable.”

“The (UN) plan aims to deprive Serbia of an important piece of its territory,” the Council said. If adopted by the UN Security Council, the plan “would make survival of Serbs impossible ... and lead to destabilisation of the entire region.” Serbia’s control over the southern province was suspended in 1999 when Nato bombing halted a Serb crackdown on the ethnic Albanianse paratists and turned the province into a protectorate.

I believe the US will similarly dismiss the UN plan for handing Aztlan to Mexico.

Of course, the Mexicans are a relatively peaceful bunch, something that has never been said about the Albanian Jihadists.

Can someone please educate me as to what the stances are of all our presidential candidates in regards to Kosovo? Not because I'm a Serbian-American, but because I feel it's the best way to feel out who is most against the violent spread of Islam. This is, in my opinion, the biggest current global issue, and is probably going to decide who I ultimately choose. I've got one figured out already...Obama...I know a Muslim in disguise when I see one!

Kosovo is for sure excellent litmus for future tenant of the WH. But it is more important to figure out why Condy is still on BJ's/Hitlery's remote control when it comes to Kosovo.

Her expertise is Soviet Union. And it is as useful for today's powerplay as having Ph.D in Computer science from 1980.

She has advisers on this one. And they have to be smoked out.

PNAC folks are quiet as a mouse whenever we discuss this issue. They may have great plans for the future but they have learned zilch from the past. Balkan's nickname is "the graveyard of the empires".

when it comes to kosovo, half of the republican party is still on bj's/hitlery's remote control. the other half is ambivalent.

at least rudy has a good record in eliminating albanian mafia from nyc. string of hope.

It's almost impossible to tell many Americans (Sheeples) what is going on. I've tried and even those that work with me to explain the overall plan and what the end result will be. Ever since NAFTA, they have been planning the "United States of North America", soon to merge with the EU, that will redesignate itself as the "World Union" with 10 stars and a constitution....It's only a matter of time. The Americans that do understand this and there are many are reserved to the resignation of "what can I do to stop it" symdrome....others are trying to warn......second 911 coming soon to a theatre near us..........

House resolution opposes North American Union
Lawmakers seek to block NAFTA superhighway system, continental integration

Rep. Virgil Goode, R-Va., has introduced a House resolution expressing congressional opposition to construction of a NAFTA Super Highway System or entry into a North American Union with Mexico and Canada.

Goode said the goal behind House Concurrent Resolution 40, introduced Monday, is "to block a NAFTA Superhighway System and to indicate the opposition of the Congress to the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) of North America that was declared by President Bush, Mexico's then-President Vicente Fox, and Canada's then-Prime Minister Paul Martin, at the conclusion of their summit meeting in Waco, Texas, on March 23, 2005."

The preamble of HCR 40 refers to the Trans-Texas Corridor being built by the Texas Department of Transportation, noting "a NAFTA Super Highway System from the west coast of Mexico through the United States and into Canada has been suggested as part of a North American Union to facilitate trade between the SPP countries."

A subsequent "whereas" clause notes "the State of Texas has already begun planning of the Trans-Texas Corridor, a major multi-modal transportation project beginning at the United States - Mexico border, which would serve as an initial section of a NAFTA Super Highway System."

The resolution expresses concern "it could be particularly difficult for Americans to collect insurance from Mexican companies which employ Mexican drivers involved in accidents in the United States, which would likely increase the insurance rates for American drivers."

Another concern with the plans for a NAFTA Super Highway is that "future unrestricted trucking into the United States can pose a safety hazard due to inadequate maintenance and inspection, and can act collaterally as a conduit for the entry into the United States of illegal drugs, illegal human smuggling, and terrorist activities."

The Spanish investment consortium, Cintra Concesiones de Infraestructuras de Transporte, S.A., owned by the Madrid-based Groupo Ferrovial, is funding the construction of TTC-35 and will lease the highway for 50 years. To prevent more such foreign leasing of U.S. highways, HCR 40 notes as a risk that "a NAFTA Super Highway would likely include funds from foreign consortiums and be controlled by foreign management, which threatens the sovereignty of the United States."

Regarding SPP, HCR 40 states "reports issued by the SPP indicate that it has implemented regulatory changes among the three countries that circumvent United States trade, transportation, homeland security, and border security functions and that the SPP will continue to do so in the future."

Further, HCR 40 charges "the actions taken by the SPP to coordinate border security by eliminating obstacles to migration between Mexico and the United States actually makes the United States-Mexico border less secure, because Mexico is the primary source country of illegal immigrants into the United States."

The resolution calls for Congress to express its sentiment that:

the United States should not engage in the construction of a North American Free Trade Agreement Super Highway System;

the United States should not allow the Security and Prosperity Partnership to implement further regulations that would create a North American Union with Mexico and Canada;

and the president of the United States should indicate strong opposition to these acts or any other proposals that threaten the sovereignty of the United States.

The Serbs are unlikely to accept the UN plan to tear away their southern province. The only way NATO can make it happen is to impose it by force and such a settlement will only last as long as the West can keep Serbia from reconquering the province.
