I know that...and you know that...but to the DEMS the "NATO" name is important.

For them it is all about SHOW....not about substance...otherwise they would be just as ready to get the heck out of the UN as we are...

But, they not only don't want OUT of the UN, they want the US to have to give more power to the UN over our affairs.

One of the biggest yet unsolved problems in Afghanistan are the poppy fields. Whomever can resolve that burden will go a long way to solving Afghanistan's many problems.

Boston's busing fights was what I was thinking of in my post.  I was raised in NY, though my family is from the deep South (my dad) and the mountain West (my mom).  I went to college for a few years up in the Boston area and shared an apartment with a friend in Southie when the worst of the confrontations over busing were taking place there.

I'm no fan of forced busing but the racist attitudes of the "good people of Boston" and their casual attitudes about it astonished me.  At least racists in the South are up front about it and are therefore easily identifiable as loons.  In the North they all assume that they aren't racists and have nothing against (fill in the minority here), it's just that they don't want them anywhere near their neighberhoods.

You know what I mean.

I did see on Gateway Pundit last night...a little tidbit that said that in the 8 years of Clinton's presidency there was an average of 939 military deaths per year..

Under Pres. Bush's presidency there has been an average of 800 military deaths per year.

-------

A friend pointed out that Gateway's analysis is questionable. I went and looked at the raw data and he has a point. The figure for Bush casualties are for hostile action, the Clinton figures are totals for all deaths which include accidents, illness and homicide.

That being said, the directly comparable figure for total deaths under Bush are only a percentage (10-20) above Clinton's (not an order of magnitude which might be expected) which does demonstrate how low casualties have been in this war. Too bad this kind of discussion even has to be addressed. If we had a loyal media...

Well don't forget...the original cry of "No War For Oil" by the left was made concerning Afghanistan.

Remember the 2 week "quagmire"?

The attention span of the lefties is such that they've forgotten about Afghanistan cause there is more happening on a daily basis they can trash the President with.

But I too believe that if they manage to screw us over and pull us out of Iraq...they'll remember about Afghanistan and turn it into another "miserable failure" as well.

The Left has been far from silent on not lumping in Iraq with Afghanistan and the WOT. They have been actively fighting to make that distinction at every opportunity, even to the point of making sure that theater decorations are distinct. The Dems have called Iraq the war of choice.

Democrats and media arbitrarily changed a relationship between AQ and Iraq into operational support for 9/11. That was never said but this is one of the current items the left continues to claim. I am under no illusion the media and Democrats won't do anything they believe they can get away with for political gain.

I agree with you on their not being able to oppose the war on terror, but it defies logic to me how then can then separate Iraq from the WOT. Yet they do. It is not inconceivable to me that the left will change on a dime to include Afghanistan.

Notice too, there is virtually no mention over Kosovo coming from Democrats. Selective war is political for them and they are not adamant about protecting the USA.

I was going post what Terry McAuliffe is saying on CNN..but he is a ridiculous man...not worth my time.

He will not answer ANY question about Hillary...and even admits that no one should even worry about whether Hillary voted for the war...because it was BUSH'S MISTAKE...no one else's.

Exactly, the only way the Dems would support anything is if it were their issue to begin with.

True, true, Master. I got drawn into mixing metaphors there for awhile. ;^>

Plus, I did love the excuse to wander off into references to that old movie...

I've been saying all along that we're going to have a very tough time in the Senate in 2008 - just too many very vulnerable seats to defend. The Dim seats up for grabs, OTOH, are for the large part safe. Probably the most vulnerable Dim of the bunch would have been Tim Johnson of SD, but if he recovers fully, he'll be a shoo-in now due to the sympathy vote. Probably the only other one we might have a chance at knocking off would be Landrieu, but the voters in LA seem perfectly happy to keep reelecting crooks and incompetents, so I have very little faith in that race either. The rest of them are just as safe as safe can be.

As far as the GOP side goes, I see five (Coleman, Dole, Smith, Sununu, Warner) that are extremely vulnerable and probably have a better than 50 percent chance of being knocked off in 2008. Allard was making noise about retiring - if he does, that seat will certainly be in play for the Dims. I also think Lindsey Graham has a good chance of being knocked off in the primary, and I hope he does - we should be able to keep that seat anyway.

Thank you very much for investigating and analyzing that post by GP...

I did find it surprising...but, I have never thought that it has been "honest" for the MSM and the Dems to act like the war deaths are so over the top...that we can't possibly handle them staying one day longer.

Of course it goes without saying that any deaths are awful..and I hate every one of them.
