NEW YORK Before the United Nations can save the planet, it needs to clean up its own house. And as scandal after scandal has unfolded over the past decade, from Oil for Food to procurement fraud to peacekeeper rape, the size of that job has become stunningly clear.
But any understanding of the real efforts that job entails should begin with a look at the long and murky career of Maurice Strong, the man who may have had the most to do with what the U.N. has become today, and still sparks controversy even after he claims to have cut his ties to the world organization.
From Oil for Food to the latest scandals involving U.N. funding in North Korea, Maurice Strong appears as a shadowy and often critically important figure.
Strong, now 77, is best known as the godfather of the environmental movement, who served from 1973-1975 as the founding director of the U.N. Environment Program (UNEP) in Nairobi. UNEP is now a globe-girdling organization with a yearly budget of $136 million, which claims to act as the worlds environmental conscience. Strong consolidated his eco-credentials as the organizer of the U.N.s 1992 environmental summit in Rio de Janeiro, which in turn paved the way for the controversial 1997 Kyoto Treaty on controlling greenhouse gas emissions.

I years past Maurice Strong has been tabbed as the leading candidate for "the Antichrist". I don't have a link - but just remember the name. So he's 77? Maybe he is aging out of that potential category.....
I'll happily put this SOB Strong in my dead pool for 2007!
ARticle is actually very good and very damning of Mr. Maurice Strong.
Well .. I'm still thinking the anti-Christ could be a woman.
Ummmmmm --- any particular woman whose initials are HRC???
Him and Soros are pals. Bad combo.
Where's the 00 section when you need them. This guy needs dead.
That .. or NP.
The writers of that article need to go further and detail Strong's connections to Soros and Soros' connections to the Demonrat party, esp the Clinton machine. Supposedly Soros is no longer supporting Hillary. Somehow I don't think so - Hillary is THE machine that will help Soros - and his pals - trample the rights of "the people" into the dust of America's past - if allowed to do so.
Yea I changed IRA funds from Strong when I learned about this rich liberal.
Maurice Strong not only authored the Kyoto Accords, but he's also the main progenitor of "Our Global Neighborhood" - the report on the commission for global government, he had a hand in Agenda 21 of the UN, wrote the "Earth Charter" which purports to replace religion with ecology, and tried to shyster a deal whereby he'd be paid megabucks to pump water down into the aquifer next to the Great Sand Dunes national monument in Southern Colorado...and his Costa Rica based Earth Council works hand in glove with one Mr. Gorbachev's Green Cross International to fight freedom worldwide 24/7.
He's a self-made billionaire from Canada who figured out that his tropical timber interests could be seen as "destroying the rain forest"....so he set up a propaganda mill to fight the boogey man and ever since has raked in tax free donations to counter his own wealth machine.
One VERY clever entrepreneur.....
He IS the gospel to the eco-twits, green weenies, granola breath eco-con driacs of the world. And, you generally DON'T get any reciprocal funding for your wilderness association, wildlands project, or conservation easement organization if you aren't willing to sell his swill lock, stock and barrel.
Other than that I really admire him.
Thanks for that added information. It seems many people know about mr. Maurice Strong - good. The more light on this snake, the better. He's getting up there in age. One day he will meet his maker and find out the way he has spent his life just is not so wiley after all.
Ping.
