SIX PEOPLE SHOT DEAD IN GERMANY: Bloodbath in Chinese Restaurant
SPIEGEL Online ^ | February 05, 2007 | Julia Juettner

Three men and three women have been found shot dead in a Chinese restaurant in a small town in northern Germany. Police don't know if it was a robbery, a mafia-related attack or a family dispute. The only two witnesses can't help: One of them is in critical condition in hospital, the other is the two-year-old child of the dead owners.

Six people, three men and three women, have been found dead in a Chinese restaurant in the town of Sittensen in northern Germany.

Police said the bodies were found by a 47-year-old man who had gone to the Lin Yue restaurant shortly after midnight on Sunday night to pick up his wife who worked there. She was among the dead.

The six dead had all been shot, and some of them had been tied up. They were reported to be Asian or of Asian descent and are believed to include the married couple who ran the restaurant and four members of staff. The two-year-old child of the owners was found unharmed in the restaurant.

One member of the restaurant's staff was found alive and is being treated in hospital for a life-threatening gunshot wound. It's unclear if he will be be able to help police with their inquiries, though. His condition is "very bad," said police spokesman Detlev Kaldinski.

Hours after the shooting, the bodies were still lying in the first-floor restaurant as forensic experts combed it for evidence. Officers from the national Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) are helping with the investigation.

Police said they didn't know whether it was a robbery, a targeted attack by Chinese triads or some kind of family drama.

The restaurant, in a modern white-washed building in a residential area of this town of 10,000 between Hamburg and Bremen, was popular with locals.

How terrible. Those poor people, just trying to run their business (at least that's all we know now). May God bless them and comfort their grieving families, and may the killers receive justice. I hope there's a loving relative to give the 2-year-old a new home.

So we can be confident that nobody else will be murdered there... this week.

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

No gunshots heard, probably a silencer was used.
I would venture a guess that organized crime has a hand in it.

Are citizens allowed to own firearms in Germany?

For hunting (which, depending on the region, is quite popular) or as a sport, of course. There are many "Schuetzenvereine", even a girl I went to school with spent much of her spare time at the shooting range back then.

Guns need to be registered, however, and if you are not a hunter or a member of a club and just want to own a gun for "personal protection", a licenses is seldom granted (there are exceptions).

But then again, there's always a "black market". I mean, cocaine is also illegal in the US, but you still can get plenty.

Only if you spit against the wind, jump over fire, roll on your back, and shove fists full of money down a bureaucrats throat are you as a normal tax paying law abiding citizen allowed to own a gun.

But, but, but...I thought that registration would end gun violence! You mean it doesn't? Well goodness gracious, we'd better just ban all those evil guns and make good and doggone sure the world is a safe place for everyone, doncha know? I mean, we all know that if it weren't for guns, there'd never be any killing anywhere, right?

In particular: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_records/chl/chlsindex.htm

Concealed carry is no where in Germany except if you're with the big Vater Staat. You don't have a right to defend yourself there, the Polizei or BVS is supposed to do that for you. The state maintains a "Gewaltmonopol" and you as a citizen do not have a right to use deadly force.

Who told you that? Of course you have the right to defend yourself - even with deadly force (§ 32 StGB Notwehr). If my or another´s life is at risk, I may kill the attacker. It´s just that we´ve gun control.

This can't be true. Germany has had strict Gun Control laws since A. Hitler instituted them in the early thirties.

The killing of the six people at the restaurant is sad. The picture with the article shows the good side of Germany. A nicely painted building, the clean cobbled street and walk and no news TV truck parked at the curb blasting the tragedy up to a satellite for distribution.
