Monday, patrons of the Dallas-based Pizza Patrón chain, which caters heavily to Latinos, will be able to purchase American pizzas with Mexican pesos.
Restaurant experts and economists said they knew of no other food chain with locations so far from the Mexican border offering such a service.
"We're trying to reach out to our core customer," Antonio Swad, president of Pizza Patrón Inc., said Friday.
"We know they come back [from Mexico] and have pesos left over. We want to be a convenient place for them to spend their pesos."
While U.S. restaurant chains have stepped up their marketing to Latino consumers and incorporated Latin flavors in the menu, it's unusual to see that outreach extend to the cash register.
"I think it's a very interesting idea," said Ron Paul, president of Technomic Inc., a Chicago-based restaurant market research firm. "They are catering to that audience."
But Mr. Paul said he did not see other chains rushing to emulate the program, in part because of bookkeeping headaches.

The menu in English?
And they're off!
and so it begins...
Quite a bit of that colorful Canadian stuff flows around the northern border too.
They,re gunna need alot of pesos.
This is getting insane.
Yesterday I sent some money via moneygram, and the primary directions on the form were in Spanish! The PRIMARY directions, not the SECONDARY ones. I had to search for the small print ENGLISH, sometimes having to look 2 or 3 times to find them!
Before the usual criticisms manifest, I'm: 1. Not a racist. 2. I support LEGAL immigration and 3. I think that since it's been the normative, if not official language of this country for over 200 years, ENGLISH should be the PRIMARY language on all documents in THIS country.
I really don't think that's too much to ask.
And by the way, these people are asking for accounting nightmares! The peso fluctuates wildly in value, I have no idea how they are going to price their pizza's DAILY to keep up with the volitile peso.
On the other hand, there are probably a lot of Mexican places, including southern Mexico, that accept American dollars.
1 yen roughly is about 1 cent. They have denominations more than 1 (peso, yen, dollar, etc.).
This may be new to Dallas but it's always been the norm in the Texas border cities. Of course they have to post the exchange rate which changes almost daily since Mexico first "floated" the Peso in 1975.
Oh, so you're a hate monger. /s
There is also no exchange rate on coins. Of course, just try using them in Vending Machines.
A big Sicillian deep dish will run 358,972,130 pesos, plus the tip.
From comment 5, 1 peso is about 10 cents. That's one expensive pizza you have there.
The main purpose of posting was the erosion taking place.
Months ago, a Freeper pointed a McD's in Washington state had their menu in Spanish. About the time another had a billboard in CA in Spanish.
Another trend I see is signs on gas pumps in Spanish. Locally in the northern part of the U.S., I took a business to task about that. I asked why in the hell are they posting those signs when drivers are required to understand English!!!!
...and if you listen closely, you can actually hear the pesos losing value inside the till.
