Despite all the naysayers I'd rather stay informed. Not paranoid, just informed.

Here's more, from Scotland this time:

Three times as deadly as MRSA - and new superbug is on the rise

The resistant strains are the ones that survive when you quit taking your 10-day supply of penicillin on the 6th day because you feel better. If you'd taken the whole 10 days' worth, they would have died too, rather than reproduce and spread. That's how we've been lucky enough to develop a drug-resistant strain of TB, too - homeless people who get meds prescribed, then don't pick up their refills (or take them at all).

In the back of my mind, I questioned the prescribing of 14 days of antibiotics for my head/chest cold 3 months ago. But I took them anyway, even though the symptoms had gone. People do stop taking antibiotics prematurely quite often. I'm not among them.

Exactly. And agribusiness feeds animals with antibiotics at low levels for a long time. Perfect setup for creating superbugs.

A Frightening Off-Field Foe

Redskins' Noble Battles Infection That Is a Growing Concern for the NFL

Brandon Noble needs crutches to walk, and he has been relegated to spending much of his time at home on his sofa. When he's lying in bed at night and needs to move his left leg to get comfortable, he must lift it with his arms or nudge it with his right leg.

At 31, Noble has been sidelined by a staph infection, suffered after being injured, that in some cases is potentially fatal.

There have been a few cases of MRSA contaminations happening in the NFL  Actually, it is believed to be because of the shower room facilities, and not on the field actions.

Sounds a lot like Lliberalism.

"?? Otherwise healthy?"

Yep. "MSRA: It's Not Just For The Hospitalized Any More"

I can't recall the name, but it got a Washington Redskins player a
couple of years ago. I think that was the end of his NFL career.
(Even successfully fighting off a strong infection and avoiding amputation
can still leave a person with months of fatigue, in some cases.)

Test and quarantine early on would have prevented the millions now infected in this country saving lives and billions in health care.

Nope, just basic principles of epidemiology. Sadly, the liberals are setting the stage for this to happen by allowing public health to subserve bogus civil rights.

"MRSA is old news in the US long term care industry."

I hospitals , YES ... .

I just got over it and I don't work in a hospital, ... in fact I'm a stay at home Mom. I haven't been around sick people and I got it. My GP has NO IDEA WHY he is seeing this pop up in HEALTHY people like myself in the general population.

Hopefully it;s gone for good. I had chills ... flannel PJ's, 3 down comforters and flannel sheets and wool socks and I still couldn't get warm. It started in my left ear - my head ACHED and my ear itched something fierce. I had balance issues and felt like I was drunk. It had also spread to my left index finger, up my nose and on my thighs. It was also as a "pimple" on my face on both cheeks. BTW, I'm NOT "gay" either - VERY STRAIGHT and practice good hygiene - we can't figure out how I got this.

It's not something to mess around with.

If untreated it can kill you!

No kidding. It gets at your internal organs.

By no means did I, who just got over this, over use anti biotics. In fact we only use soap and water. Out somewhere to eat we will use GermX or Purrell. I have NO CLUE on how I got this.
