I took part in this operation. A few facts never presented in the media: 1)The government/paramilitaries were corrupt and oppressed both ethnic Albanians and Serbs. Many of the refugees the media poured over on TV were in fact, Serbs. 2) The goal of the Albanian resistance from the start was to independence from Serbia. Possibly in order to join with Albania. 3) The resistance was funded largely by heroin smugglers looking to disrupt the Serbian police-state; as their route running from Central Asia to Western Europe runs right through it. 5) Al-Qaeda has been involved from the start. A couple agents were even caught in late '99-early '00. The book Jawbreaker mentioned it but the details were censored by the CIA. 6) Due to the NATO- war, the Serbs were effectively ethnically-cleansed, as it was unsafe for any to stay in the provence. Some left to some mountain-towns, others too old to budge stayed put with UN protection, but still faced death-threats. 7) If you want a cheap, stolen BMW or Mercedes, you can pick one up there for about $5k

I find the terminology objectionable. In English, there are no "Kosovars" as inhabitants of Kosovo, like there are no Ohioars or Idahoars in U.S. There are only ethnic Albanians or Kosovoans/Kosovans regardles of ethnicity (Serb or Albanian.

The invention of the term "Kosovars" to depict etnic Albanian minority as a nation is a political ploy to present violent ethnic minority as an oppressed nation, which they are not.

Anyone who uses word "Kosovar" in English for Albanian from Kosovo is knowingly or unknowingly spreading propaganda on behalf of Islamic terrorists.

There are two sides to this story.

Kosovo was (and is) a legitimate portion of Serbia. The more numerous ethnic Albanians there were taking over, harassing and killing ethnic Serbs, refusing to pay their taxes, forming parallel government on a local scale and consolidating for a breakaway from Serbia. The Serb government cracked down on behalf of the ethnic Serbs in the area who were getting a raw deal from the muslims and this is what the hubbub was about. There was fighting and killing, but no genocide. No doubt that genocide was a definite possibility, given Milosovic's history, but what Clinton did was take the side of the rebels, bomb the legitimate government forces and give the muslims Kosovo. A lot of ethnic Serbs were forced to flee and leave their property over this. Given what we've seen of muslims over the last five years, do you really think that, in this case, the Serbs in Kosovo "had it coming"?
