Maybe they think that a 'surge' is coming and are taking time off to regroup what little they have left.

Fascinating Analysis of Leftist Goals, August 13, 2006

Reviewer: N. Sincerity - See all my reviews

A former 1960s radical, Horowitz is well-acquainted with the Leftist mindset. In this book, he strives to explain the modern alliance between left wing progressivists and radical Islamofascists. He argues that this alliance is based on a common desire to destroy Western capitalism. Leftist sympathy with Islamofascist ideas makes no sense from an intellectual point of view, given that countries ruled by radical Islamists are among the most racist, sexist, theocratic states in the world today. However, Leftists have recognized that they can benefit politically from destructive terrorist attacks on the Western world. A West under attack can be made to turn on its leaders in fear and desperation (as they did in Spain after the Madrid train bombings). Only once people reject current government structures can the Left execute its anti-capitalist revolution and build a new reality that mirrors the Leftist view of utopia. The complete and utter idealogical hypocrisy of the Islamofascist-Leftist alliance is distressing, but as Horowitz reminds us, Leftists radicals truly believe the ends justify the means.

Why settle for a month, I have a better idea. Kill them all. Then there will be a lasting peace.

'Sunni & Shia' Rock Group Formed
Dec. 21, 2006

Two Iraqi youngsters from rival Sunni and Shia sects of Islam announced they were launching a musical career.

Samir Bahja, is 19, a Sunni and the male member of the pair, said they were inspired by “Sonny & Cher”—a husband and wife rock and roll act popular in the 1960s. “There is so much violence in our country, we are hoping to bring people together with music,” Bahja said. “Shadiya has a beautiful voice and I’m working on writing the songs. It’s just like how the original Sonny & Cher started.”

Shadiya Labib, is 17, a Shia and the female member of the singing duo, agreed. “Samir is not such a good singer, but he is very clever and funny,” Labib said. “The songs he has written are quite humorous.”

Bahja says he’s written three songs thus far. “The first song I wrote was ‘I Gut You Badr,’” he said. “It is an ironic song of revenge gone awry. The second song I wrote was ‘The Bleat Goes On,’ It’s about the lonely nights of a shepherd. The last song I’ve completed so far is ‘Baba Don't Go.’ In this one a girl pleads with her boyfriend to give up his plan for a suicide bombing.”

Naturally, the duo plans to perform as “Sunni & Shia.”

Mullah Muqtada al-Sadr, a leader of a Shia faction has already pronounced a fatwa on the two. “Music is the devil’s work,” Sadr said. “We will slice the heads from the bodies of these blasphemers.”

Al-Qaeda is also displeased with this development. “These miscreants mock the holiness of our struggle against the unbelievers and the Shia apostates,” said Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, al-Qaeda’s leader in Iraq. “We will cut their throats, spill their blood, and burn the ground underneath them.”

In related news, Sadr said he is considering a one-month unilateral cease-fire. “We are out of bullets,” Sadr observed. “It will take at least 30 days to resupply our fighters. We’d rather not have to do this under fire.” Sadr confirmed that his Mahdi army will continue to use traditional weapons to kill the unarmed in the interim.

Al-Qaeda offers US troops safe passage out of Iraq

The head of an Al-Qaeda-dominated organization in Iraq has offered to give US troops a month to pull out free of attack.

The offer was made in an audiotape posted on the internet and demanded an answer within two weeks.

Abu Omar al-Baghdadi is the leader of a self-proclaimed Islamic emirate in western and north-central Iraq that is dominated by supporters of Al-Qaeda.

It comes as the U.S. military reported the deaths of five more soldiers in Iraq and Defense Secretary Robert Gates ended a visit aimed at finding a new strategy to curb violence and allow U.S. troops to withdraw.

Qaeda-backed group offers U.S. safe Iraq exit: Web

Fri Dec 22, 2006 4:17pm ET

DUBAI (Reuters) - The leader of an al Qaeda-backed group offered to refrain from attacking U.S. forces if they withdrew from Iraq within a month and left their heavy weapons behind, according to an audio tape posted on the Internet on Friday.

"We call on (President George W.) Bush not to waste this historic opportunity which insures you a safe withdrawal," said the speaker, identified as Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, head of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq, which was announced in October by al Qaeda and groups linked to it.

The authenticity of the tape could not be verified, but it was posted on two main Web sites used by al Qaeda and other insurgent groups in Iraq.

"We are awaiting your response within two weeks of this announcement," said the speaker in the tape, which was dated December 22. He said insurgent groups would refrain from attacking withdrawing U.S. forces if they left within a month.

Baghdadi was a little-known militant before Sunni militant groups including al Qaeda announced what they described as an Islamic state in Iraq. Baghdadi was named as the head of the state and in November, the leader of Iraq's al Qaeda wing -- Abu Hamza al-Muhajir -- vowed allegiance to him.

The recording was posted on the Internet hours after Defense Secretary Robert Gates ended a visit to Iraq aimed at finding a new strategy to curb violence and allow U.S. troops to withdraw.

"You (Bush) wasted the opportunity of the truce offered to you by the sheikh of the mujahideen, Osama bin Laden, may God protect him," the speaker on the tape said.

In January, bin Laden warned in an audio tape that al Qaeda was preparing new attacks inside the United States, but said the group was open to a conditional truce with the Americans. Washington said it did not negotiate with terrorists.

"In these holy days (before the annual Muslim haj pilgrimage) we announce a new campaign ... to step up the fight against the crusaders," the speaker said.

"The withdrawal is to be carried out with personnel carriers and passenger planes, with troops only carrying (light) arms ... and not heavy weapons," he added.

The speaker rejected any talks through the mediation of Saudi Arabia, denouncing Saudi leaders as "tyrants".

Saudi Arabia said this week it would not take sides in Iraqi sectarian violence, denying reports the U.S.-allied kingdom may back Sunni Muslims in their fight against Shi'ites if the United States withdraws from Iraq.
