WASHINGTON -- The Selective Service System is planning a comprehensive test of the military draft machinery, which hasn't been run since 1998.

The agency is not gearing up for a draft, an agency official said Thursday. The test itself would not likely occur until 2009.

Meanwhile, the secretary for Veterans Affairs said that "society would benefit" if the U.S. were to bring back the draft and that it shouldn't have any loopholes for anyone who is called to serve. VA Secretary Jim Nicholson later issued a statement saying he does not support reinstituting a draft.

Oh yes it is! Charlie Rangle wants EVERYONE to be drafted....young men, young women, homosexuals, lesbians, women with children, kids attending college.....and on and on and on; NO EXCEPTIONS. I merely asked what you thought about that.

Who are you to tell me I need to die for my country.
I’ll decide that. Which I did for 10 years.

The object, as General George S. Patton is reported to have said, ''...is not to die for your country but to make the other possr SOB die for his.'' The legislative mandate to compel service to one's country is nothing new or revolutionary. If you don't like the law challenge it and then comply with the court's interpretation of its constitutionality. I'm not ''telling'' anyone to die for any cause, that's an invalid argument that every second semester freshman knows is faulty.
