Activists take credit for juice poisoning ["Animal rights" extremists]
UPI ^ | Dec. 19, 2006 | UPI

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Animal activists claim they have poisoned 487 bottles of POM Wonderful's juice on the U.S. Eastern seaboard to protest animal testing.

A POM Wonderful spokesman told United Press International the company has not confirmed the validity of the claim, but it was contacted by the FBI regarding the issue. The spokesman said the company is preparing a statement on the matter.

The North American Animal Liberation Press Office distributed a communiqué it received that claimed credit for the juice poisoning and was signed "animal rights militia." POM Wonderful, which makes pomegranate juice, has been a target of animal activists since it was revealed the company uses animals, such as newborn mice and rabbits, to test its juice and show its health benefits.

The communiqué does not detail what substance was allegedly put in the juice but says it isn't lethal.

"Those who drink the contaminated juice won't die like the animals in pom labs, but the diarrhea, vomiting and headaches will hopefully send a strong message that people will no longer allow innocent defenseless animals to be tormented and killed for a health juice," the communiqué states.

I don't know what they are complaining about. There is no evidence that feeding pomengranate juice injures the mice or rabbits that are supposedly being used by Pom Labs. If anything, these critters must be be enjoying healthier lives because of the gourmet diet.

Never tasted that crap, did you? Vivisection is one thing, but forced-feeding of POM is just plain cruel.

"Never tasted that crap, did you?"

Actually, I have. It does have a unique taste to it :) Don't know if the taste has anything to do with the natural taste of pomengranate or the lack of artificial sugars in the finished product.

Pom is packed with anti-oxidants and is supposed to lower your cholesterol. Sounds like "torture" to me!

Injure? Hell, as long as rats and mice aren't outright poisoned by a compound in it, like dogs are by grapes, they prolly LOVE it...and it's likely better for them than lab blocks! Every rat I owned adored sweet or tasty things and would be in heaven if you gave them juice. Mine would lick drops of juice from my hand if offered, or drink from a bottle cap with obvious enjoyment.

Actually, I drink a glass of pomegranate every day, although I use a different cheaper brand. It helps heart health. It is one facet of my diet, exercise and medication which has improved my colesterol to normal levels.

Pull all the POM product off the shelf. Arrest the creeps and feed them the product until all the stock is exhausted. Bill them for the materials and lodging. Let them experience the consequences they intended for others.

I like pomengranate juice and my favorite brand is POM. I can't believe these kooks would poison the bottles.

But it's OK to torment innocent defenseless people with diarrhea, vomiting, and headaches... /s

Actually, these "activists" fit every definition I have ever seen or heard for "Terrorist" and should be arrested and tried as such. Same goes for members and supporters of many of the Peta, ALF, ELF, and other similar groups and organizations. Fifty years ago, the wrath of a community would have been "visited" upon them, just prior to their being found and arrested by local law. And most lawyers at that time were actually interested in "Justice", not in the self-grandizement currently extant in the "legal" profession.

If you have a juicer that squeezes instead of blends, you can make your own pomegranite juice -- fresh! It's wonderful. Anti-oxidant heaven. Just peel the pomegranite while watching TV and collect all the little seeds that are surrounded by purple juicy pulp. Dump those in the juicer, turn on the squeezer, and out come large glasses of delightful drink.

The POM brand has an excellent taste, but not as good as fresh. The unfortunate thing about POM brand is its high cost: $5 or more for a little bottle.

I wonder if there's a pomegranite wine with great heart health benefits?

I love POM, just wish it were a bit cheaper. I had a Turkish classmate who was thrilled to get POM, apparently they drink pomegranate juice over there all the time and she missed it here.

As usual, animal rights activists go all out for animals, but don't care if a human gets hurts in the process. They don't know who will drink the juice. Diarrhea for someone who's system is already compromised could be devastating. They need to be tried as the terrorists that they are.

Grapes are poisonous to dogs? I didn't know that. Can you tell me more? How poisonous? Where did you hear that? Does it matter what type of grape? Any other details? Thanks.

They are going to continue to get off easy until someone does get killed. Then the public should turn.

It's time to go seriously nuclear if/when terrorists start poisoning the food supply. I doubt that these clowns actually did what they threatened (probably just trying to get the product pulled from shelves for testing, or discouraging the public from buying it), but if they did they should be treated just like Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, or any other Muzzie terrorists. If fact, even Muzzie terrorists haven't gone after the food supply, yet. Even suicide bombers have to eat.

Yeah, possibly. Or "the diarrhea, vomiting and headaches will hopefully send a strong message that certain environmental extremist groups need to be shut down and their members need to be imprisoned.".

It could really go either way.

No, there's no such thing as ecoterrorism. Libs told me it doesn't exist. If poisioning our food supply isn't harming innocent civillians, I don't know what is.

I did not know that grapes can kill dogs! My dogs have eaten grapes before and they seem fine. My dogs have also injested a full 2lb. box of chocolate and all the candy my son got from Halloween. Ate an entire bag of lollipops, left all of the sticks, then threw up all different colors on my white carpet. Yuk!
