Vieira Vows: Hillary's Big-Government Book 'More Imperative' Than Ever
Today Show/NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Someone should let Meredith Vieira know: when trying to ingratiate oneself with Hillary Clinton, it's best to avoid words bringing "imperious" to mind. But if the execution was flawed, no one can deny the fervor with which Vieira endorsed Hillary's paean to big-government, 'It Takes A Village'. Here's how Vieira opened her interview with Hillary on this morning's Today:

"I'll get to Hillary '08, but first I want to start with 'It Takes a Village' '07 because this book came out ten years ago, and a lot has happened in the past ten years that makes it I think even more imperative that we will need a village to raise healthy, secure children."

View video here.In some ways, the very end of the interview was even more telling. Have a look at this clip. Meredith starts with a traditional closing handshake. But that's just not enough to express the depth of her affection. Meredith moves to the edge of her seat, leans over and touches Hillary's hand.

Kind of reminds you of the last time Katie Couric interviewed Dick Cheney, doesn't it?

In my dream last night, I was in a car with Hillary on a street in my childhood neighborhood. She was talking about her book and wanted to give me a signed copy. I looked out of the car window and noticed residents throwing copies of her book out into the street. I asked if she wanted to sign one of them. (I had very strange dreams last night). :)

Formula for disaster: First, convince everyone that they are cosmic accidents, with no purpose in life, and that there is no absolute right or wrong. Then, when they act in a manner logically consistent with that philosophy, act surprised and say, "Somebody should do something. We need government to fix this." Government can't fix the heart.

Did she talk about what she's going to do to help NY retain business, lower taxes and defend against terrorists?

I seriously doubt that any cabal created this master stroke of planning to undermine traditional values, offer a liberal agenda, change out the schools with liberalism, etc. all to lead to a specific outcome. I think unfortunately it all came together sort of accidentally. But your point is a good one. The premise of the US (the big idea that our nation was the first to recognize and make a fundamental part of our philosophy) is that people have natural rights granted by God (not from the government) and that this makes them sovereign. The government is a tool of the people and gets it's rights from us, not the other way around. But if you remove God from the equation, you in effect remove the entire premise of America. You pave the way for collectivism and thoughts of supression of rights for the "greater good".

The greatest shield against this is for people to be aware of what makes this country great, what the role of people and the government is. But alas most people think things like "the first ammendment gives us the right to..." rather than "the first ammendment forbids the government from..."

The plan has been in place for approximately 50 years, FRiend, but only recently has the implemantation of said plan been ramped up to the point that their agenda is obvious to all.

You take politics way too seriously. I never have even come close to having political dreams. Too much other stuff in life to worry about. Of course, I want a perfect government, but to have dreams - nightmares is interesting at best. You need sleeping pills. lol.

I can't believe this country has come to the point of even considering this woman as Commander in Chief. We are going to have to fight hard to keep her out.

I had a political dream recently. The Marxists took over and started leading all the liberals from academia, the media and from government to a building. All you heard were saws buzzing and a freint scream every now and then.

I woke up at my desk and 1/4 of the office staff were missing. The office became progressively filthier as the days wore on. The union that cleans the building were outside wandering around aimlessly. I asked one why he wasn't cleaning the building and he said his shop manager vanished.

I noticed less police on the streets and fires were left burning as the tenements continued to smolder. The people in the tenements started to loot, but were shot dead by store owners.

President Clinton called for the National Guard, but they all went home to their families and a now non-existent military couldn't handle the chore.

A national police force was summoned and curfews were put in place.

I woke up in a cold sweat.
