Ah, good info. Thanks.

I guess I'm a bit of a cynic lately.

In fact, his device is designed so that the person dying releases the chemicals.

How convenient. They should have given Terri Schiavo the same power.

IIRC, Dr. Jack didn't go to jail because the patient killed himself. In the video, the patient took off his mask (carbon monixide, IIRC). Then Dr. Jack decides to put the mask back on his "patient", which moved his actions from "assisted" suicide to manslaughter.

My Father-in-Law died a horrifying and undignified death, on a hospital bed in his living room while choking on his own pulmonary fluids, while my wife tried (in a futile manner) to save his life. It pains me to think he could have preserved some of his dignity if he had been allowed to dictate the time and manner of his death.

Instead, he was sent home to die when doctors at the hospital said "we can do no more to save you."

Yeah, that was brave.

Why doesn't everybody stop the emotional outbursts and read up on what this ghoul Kevorkian really did. (BTW--he was a pathologist, not a physician.)

Kevorkian has always been obsessed with death and dying. (He admitted to being "intrigued" watching life pass out of a person.) And many of the "patients" (mostly women) who took his fatal cocktail weren't even sick, let alone terminal.

Kevorkian is depraved. His should not be held up as an example of achieving "death with dignity."

Your slippery slope argument can be applied to all governmental action whether you agree with the action or not.

It is a very sad thing watching a loved one die.....my suicide comment about cowardice was mainly aimed at someone who just lost all their money or their girlfriend.

But suicide is a Mortal Sin in my religion, but if people want to off themselves, it's no business of mine, I guess. I don't like a third party like Dr. Death coming in and relishing the act....he is an evil person.

I don't understand that. They can administer morphine such that it will render a person unconscious, but still breathing. This happened to my dad, who was riddled with cancer. Took him about a week and a half to die. At moments like that, you want to trust the physicians, but in retrospect, his was more than likely a mercy killing. And to be honest with you, I'm ambivalent about it now. He didn't want extraordinary care, or resuscitation, but while he was dying of cancer, I'm now convinced he died of starvation in a drug-induced coma. We were told on a Sunday that his body was shutting down, and that he'd be dead within 48 hours. He lasted another 11 days. The whole thing was a no-win situation.

I am sorry about your F-i-L...did he want to kill himself? Since your lovely wife tried to save his life she has true peace and love.

Let us set some records straight right here and now.

Dr. Kevorkian is no champion of the terminally ill and/or suffering.

When police raided this guy's house he had stacks of stuff on dying, really graphic sexual stuff.

In other words, he gets his rocks off on death.

Now if you don't mind someone peeing solidly upon your feet and telling you it's raining, while the whole time they're smiling and jerking off to a death rattle, than carry on.

But get the facts right. He's a creep, pure and simple. Don't make him into a hero.

True, but this is literally a matter of "life and death." I appreciate the arguments about people suffering from pain. And I would hope that doctors would not refrain from administering drugs that would ease suffering without actively causing the patient's death.

Ever see his "artwork"? Truly morbid stuff.

Kevorkian loves death like a Muslim.

"..my resolve AGAINST euthanasia is stronger than ever...."

Good for you. While none of us want to see a loved one suffer there is still an intrinsic value to human life. "Do not go gentle into that good night" evokes the love of a son for his father saying that death is not to be feared but that last breath is to be fought for.

If we decline ourselves it may seem kind to just save your loved ones the images of yourself in a terrible state but calling ghouls like Dr. Death is not the answer.

Where is the DIGNITY in Suicide??? It's the most cowardice act imaginable.

The word is cowardly. As for the first part of your statement, I'll go along with the others who've taken issue with you.

Scar,

You will notice downthread I posted a post with much of your sentiment.

That's the problem with Kervorkian, he's a creep and hardly any hard-working champion of the dead and dying.

This fact played a big part in why they went after this guy and locked him the hell up.

He's a perverted weirdo and he managed to fool the public by donning a mantle of pure and sweet humanity. While the whole time he was no damn better than the BTK murderer.

And did much the same stuff as the BTK killer, I might add.

I remember when John Paul II laid dying in the Vatican for those several days. In the last years of his life, he must have been in horrible pain from all of his afflictions. But he knew that suffering is a part of life, and through his suffering, he brought many to the church that may otherwise not have come. I know for me, it had a profound influence on my feelings regarding this matter.
