Investigators still don't know who tried to break into an American Ranch Road home Monday morning, but they're sure he wasn't hit by the homeowner who shot at him, Sheriff Bill Pownall said.
The 37-year-old homeowner woke up at about 2 a.m. when he heard dogs barking, Pownall said. He went to his bedroom doorway, saw a man trying to enter through a kitchen door and fired a round from a .45-caliber handgun.
The owner told investigators he was certain he hadn't hit the man, which was confirmed when they found the handgun round lodged in a kitchen cabinet, Pownall said.
Deputies haven't received any further information since the incidents. Pownall said the case is still open.
....did you hit the target?
LOL! I had not thought of that.
At least there has to bee some crap laying around somewhere nearby. Shooting a .45 in a confined space like described must have sounded like a Abrams A1A firing.
"Shooting a .45 in a confined space like described must have sounded like a Abrams A1A firing."
Agreed, forgot to put my hearing protection on at the indoor range recently. WOW, one shot from my 629 Smith instanly reminded me to cover up. Man did that hurt!
That's why practice is so very important.
My wife wants to know if the .45 was a single shot pistol. She says shoot until you hit something.
Tell her he killed the cabinet. :)
That bleeds.
Well, that changes things. Hope I'm not standing near her if she misses her primary target. ;)
Me to!
From asleep to firing standing at the kitchen door, firing, in the same amount of time it takes an idiot burgler to break down a kitchen door. I say this Homeowner gets a Gold Star.
He doesn't have a trophy to mount on the wall, but he can always point at the hole in the kitchen cabinet and tell the funny story.
How about that as a rule? If you shoot a perp on your own property, you're allowed to bring him down to the taxidermist to have him stuffed and mounted...
Ears at least ;) .
This is why we need strict gun control. I mean really, how could you miss a target at less than 25 meters?
Gun control = PRACTICE.
Next time empty the clip.

Just had an robbery attempt last Friday near where I now live. The guy was looking for cash (of course) and cold pills. It was a drug store. Anyway, the cops show up, the guy fires 10 rounds at the cops, the cops fire 3 rounds at the robber and plug him all three times. The guy is in Vegas getting patched up and if he survives, he can tell his story to the rest of his inmates.
Now, the guy is really in deep doo-doo. He'll have to pay for having the whole kitchen remodeled. (You used to be able to build a house for what a 'new' kitchen costs these days.)
