Clueless In Seattle [Will on busing, 9th Circuit]
The Washington Post ^ | December 3, 2006 | By George F. Will

SEATTLE -- This city's school district decided in 2000 that because the son of Jill Kurfirst and the daughter of Winnie Bachwitz are white, they should be assigned to an inferior and distant high school. If they had not left the Seattle school system, this would have required them to rise at 5 a.m. in order to leave home by 5:30 a.m., alone and in the dark, to take the first of three buses, returning home between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., with almost no time left for homework, family activities and adequate sleep.

The parents argue that the racial school assignments -- actually, assignments by pigmentation -- that so injured their children violate the Constitution's guarantee of equal protection of the laws. The reliably unreliable U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit -- often reversed but never in doubt -- predictably ruled, with interesting indifference to pertinent Supreme Court precedents, against the parents. Soon -- oral arguments are tomorrow -- the Supreme Court can remind the 9th Circuit of the Constitution's limits on what schools can do in the name of "diversity."

Students can seek admission to any of Seattle's high schools. But the Seattle School District decided to engineer a precise racial balance in its most popular -- because much better -- high schools, which are chosen by more students than they can accommodate. The district wanted each oversubscribed school to reflect the entire system's ratio of 40 percent whites and 60 percent nonwhites. So it adopted a race-based admission plan to shape the schools' "diversity."

the children were among the 300 students denied admission to the school of their choice because their race interfered with racial balancing.

This is infuriating. Those liberal, Euro-American hating, judges would punish innocent children because of their race. Intolerance and discrimination was supposed to have been a thing of the past. Liberals do their best to keep it going. These judges need to be impeached.

Until June, the school district's Web site declared that "cultural racism" includes "emphasizing individualism as opposed to a more collective ideology," "having a future time orientation" (planning ahead) and "defining one form of English as standard."

And the school administrators are complete MORONS. It takes absolutely nothing to get a PhD in Education. All you have to do is tow the liberal line in college and the diploma is handed to you. Then these absolute morons write "cultural racism" policies like this!!!

I can \now see that government schools must come to an end if this society is to survive. Our children need educations, not socialization.

All the more reason to abolish the 9th as it is currently constituted, and to consider more direct challenges to judicial supremacy.

. . .this would have required them to rise at 5 a.m. in order to leave home by 5:30 a.m., alone and in the dark, to take the first of three buses, returning home between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. . .

I thought I had it bad when I was a kid, but this is riduculous. My bus ride was an only hour each way on a rural route.

That's supposed to be illegal under Washington's State's anti-reverse racial discrimination law. But we can see the 9th Circus has paid much attention to it... which is to say none!

Our children need educations, not socialization.

It seems the more "socialized" they get, the less civilized they get.

Children required to "rise at 5 a.m. in order to leave home by 5:30 a.m., alone and in the dark, to take the first of three buses, returning home between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m."

Child endangerment and abuse, pure and simple! Anyone who would make a law to treat children like this should be convicted and imprisoned and, if they live to complete their sentence, never allowed to hold elected nor appointed office for the remainder of their lives.

This is forced busing - which liberals forced on Boston public skrools in the 1970s with all too predictable results. The Left keeps forgetting its unpopular with parents across socioeconomic and racial lines who care about their children's safety as well as getting a quality education close to home. Concerns all but lost on our judicial autocrats.

Remember, the Comrades at the ninth circuit have only the best interests of the Socialist Revolution in mind.

Another term for the Seattle Soviet's busing policy: liberal social engineering.

My friend, the chilrun need to be indoctrinated to become good little multicultural sensitive liberals. Whether they learn the three R's is a matter of dead last priority to school bureaucrats and the judicial dictators who supervise them.

It's not discrimination if it is against white people:)

What you've stated seem absolutely absurd to rational, normal, people. Take a look at what the school district's web site says - from the article - emphasis mine :

Until June, the school district's Web site declared that "cultural racism" includes "emphasizing individualism as opposed to a more collective ideology," "having a future time orientation" (planning ahead) and "defining one form of English as standard." The site also asserted that only whites can be racists, and disparaged assimilation as the "giving up" of one's culture. After this propaganda provoked outrage, the district, saying it needed to "provide more context to readers" about "institutional racism," put up a page saying that the district's intention is to avoid "unsuccessful concepts such as a melting pot or colorblind mentality."

Actually, PhD in Education is less effort than a BS in Engineering. Don't students get into eduation or journalism when all else fails?
