Dallas student linked to Taliban probe (Pakistani native)

DALLAS - A university student trained with assault rifles gave a fiery sermon supporting jihad and associated with two Houston men accused of conspiring to help the Taliban, authorities said.

Syed Maaz Shah, 19, a University of Texas at Dallas student, was charged this week with illegally possessing an assault weapon — believed to be an Armalite assault rifle. He is not accused of conspiring with the Taliban, and Shah's attorney denied that he was involved in anything illegal.

But authorities say Shah is a close associate of Kobie Diallo Williams, also known as Abdul Kabir, and Adnan Babar Mirza, and practiced shooting with them in January near Houston. Williams, 33, pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiring to help the Taliban, while Mirza faces a similar charge.

Federal officials said the group talked about Islamic holy war during a secretly recorded conversation.

"The group had a discussion where they considered themselves to be mujahedeen, and they planned to travel to Pakistan and to fight U.S. forces there," FBI counterterrorism agent John McKinley said in court Friday.

Authorities have said neither of the Houston men had any real contact with terrorist groups. Shah's lawyer said he simply went to a shooting range with Mirza and Williams.

"The facts are that he has not been shown to be a violent person here or to harm anyone here," attorney Donald T. Fulton said at hearing on Friday in Dallas, where a judge denied Shah bail.

A Pakistani native, Shah is secretary of the school's Muslim Students' Association and a student government senator, according to the student newspaper, The UTD Mercury. If convicted, he could face 10 years in prison.

I'm so glad the administration has relaxed the laws regarding students from Muslim countries attending U.S. universities. Multiculturalism is so wonderful. sarc.

Fanatics don't need terrorist ties to pull a trigger or build and detonate a bomb. I hope they make an example out these swine.

trained with an assault rifle" ???

Believed to be an Armalite" ???

Well, is it semi-auto, or is it not, little 'ol AP newswriter? Beleved, believed, believed...don't tell us some stupid & vague anti-gun crap dished out by LEO's, told to help smear the guy, and justify their arrest of him. WAS IT Class III, or not?

Oooh, an Armalite! Jihadi's going full auto? Well, ok, lock 'em up, (if they lack the required permit). But if it turns out to be some semi-auto version, then please, DON't call it an assault rifle. Or else every poor fellow who has an old Garand (or a Mini-14) is some sort of threat to the Republic???

Just another example of our media's agitprop; --- demonetizing full auto weapons. -- As if the rate rounds come out of the rifle makes a big difference in lethality.

We must never agree that it's ok to say:

"-- Well, ok, lock 'em up, (if they lack the required permit). --"

This is an honest to God war, the sentence should not be time; it should be death.

So, if he serves a ten year prison sentence, I imagine this will cost Texas a million bucks.

Do we really need to admit all these Muslim students, and educate them to kill us?
